Chapter 320 No Grief
And Claire was right to hold onto that thought.
Finished
With Aurora’s blessing, Claire carefully lifted the glass boxes one by one, saving the last square one for the very end.
She held her breath, thoughts racing. Is there any charge left? Please don’t have a password. Just unlock for me Come on..
She pressed the power button.
The screen lit up. And it was a local phone at that.
After all this time, it still turned on.
Unbelievable.
Claire strangled the urge to leap straight into the air and held herself perfectly still, waiting for the phone to finish booting up.
The system hay aged past its prime, because the startup process too
an eternity.
Aurora hadn’t been paying attention to Claire’s side of the room. She stood looking around the two-story house with quiet nostalgia, speaking mostly to herself.
“After Wanda returned to the Beast God’s embrace, our clan members came here every single day to clean. That’s why there’s barely any dust. Our clan owes her a debt we can never fully repay. All we can do is tend to this place and hope it’s enough.”
Then she turned, and the glow from the phone screen caught Claire’s face in a pale wash of light. Aurora crossed the room immediately, eyes wide with astonishment.
“How on earth did you do that? We always thought that thing was just some strange kind of stone. Claire, what did you do to it?”
Zane’s curiosity deepened quietly beside them. The eagle clan had kept these belongings for years without ever figuring out what that object even did, and Claire had activated it in seconds.
Claire laughed it off with an awkward smile. “Just luck, honestly. I’m not entirely sure myself.”
Anyone paying attention could tell that was a deflection.
Claire’s entire focus had already shifted back to the phone in her hands. After its long, labored startup process, the screen finally settled and stayed on.
Across the display, a line of bold text read, “There’s a way home inside this phone. Left here for whoever comes after, just in case.”
The words hit Claire like a cold wave. She moved to navigate further, and the screen went black.
“What? Why did it die? Right now of all times. How do I get back? How does any of this work?” Claire muttered under her breath, her brow furrowed so tight it ached.

Finis
She didn’t actually want to go back. There was nothing waiting for her there anymore. Her parents were long gone, and the man who betrayed her had already gotten what was coming to him. She had no real desire to return.
But she was burning with curiosity. Wanda had found a way home, so how did she still end up dead?
Unless she actually made it back to the modern world after all?
The phone was dead now, completely shut down, impossible to restart. Even if Claire wanted to chase th truth, there was no path forward anymore.
Claire slumped slightly and curled her fingers around the phone, reaching out to Pome internally.
H
“Pome, can you charge this thing? You don’t even need to fill it all the way. Just 10%. Enough to work with
Pome answered without any sympathy at all. “Not at the moment, Master!”
A small flicker of light caught in Claire’s chest where despair had just been settling in.
“At the moment? So you’re saying you can, eventually?”
“That’s right,” Pome continued.
“Once I reach my highest level, charging the phone will be well within my abilities. And that’s not all. Unlimited weapons and ammunition, cultivation technique manuals spanning every discipline imaginabl If you can think of it, I can provide it.”
The way Pome said it so freely made Claire genuinely wonder into having more younglings.
She was being strung along just to push he
But there was nothing to be done about it. Pome was her only realistic shot at getting that phone charged.
Claire had been terrible at physics since middle school and had absolutely no idea how to generate an electrical current on her own.
At least it isn’t a dead end Claire reminded herself of that.
Beside her, Zane had caught every word of her muttering, and the questions multiplying in his mind refused to quiet down.
Charge. Phone. Words he’d never heard before in his life.
Had the Beast God taught Claire these things too? She’d never mentioned any of it before.
And where exactly does she want to go
back to?
The questions churned inside him without resolution, though his expression gave away nothing at all. He watched Claire turn the phone over and over in her hands, clearly unwilling to let it go.
Claire looked at Aurora. “Aurora, is there any way I could keep this?”
Aurora’s brow creased.
