Chapter 321 She Is
Claire nodded with quiet certainty, her eyes carrying a sincerity that left no room for doubt.

Wanda really was the biological mother of this body, and on top of that, she was a fellow traveler from the same world.
That message on the phone screen had been left deliberately for whoever came after her.
Wanda probably never imagined that one day her own daughter’s body would become home to another transmigrator.
Aurora’s thoughts scattered in every direction at once, joy and fear crashing into each other all at the same time. Tears streamed down her face before she could stop them.
She took Claire’s hands in hers and spoke with barely contained emotion.

“You’re really Wanda’s daughter! I believe you, sweetheart. You’re a good kid. You’d never lie to me. I’ll go tell your father-in-law right now, and I know he’ll agree to let you keep your mother’s things. Good girl!”
Claire nodded, and Aurora’s open sobbing sent a familiar pressure building behind Claire’s own eyes.
Aurora to Claire’s hands closed around the phone and hurried toward the door. She paused at the
threshold and turned back.
“Claire, this is your mother’s house. If you ever want to move in here, we’d all be more than happy to have you.”
Cláire smiled her thanks and nodded.
But she had no real intention of moving in. For one thing, the house had been standing for a very long time, and no matter how well it had been maintained, it was essentially a relic at this point. She wasn’t about to risk the younglings’ safety over sentiment.
For another, there simply wasn’t enough room here for all of them
After Aurora left, Claire wandered through the rest of the house for a while longer, searching carefully for anything else that didn’t belong to the Beast World. She found nothing and no note from Wanda about a way home. She finally let herself accept that and stepped back outside.
Zane walked over with Eleven in his arms and pulled Claire close.
“Don’t be sad. Wanda wouldn’t want to see you hurting like this.”
The words were simple, maybe even a little inadequate, but hearing them from Zane made Claire feel warmer than she expected.
“Zane, how am I even supposed to feel about her? I grew up without her. She’s not in any of my memories. And now she’s just suddenly right in front of me, and I honestly don’t know what to do with that.”
The explanation quietly settled most of the questions that had been stirring in Zane’s mind.
By the time they made it back home together, Davy had already returned with the younglings, and Marcus

had come back hauling the mammoth he’d taken down that day.
Mammoth meat was tender and rich, but every bite tasted like nothing to Claire.

Her mind kept drifting back to what she’d seen inside Wanda’s house. The phone now rested safely inside her storage space.
Worried something might happen to it, she’d placed it specifically inside the preservation compartment, freezing it exactly as it was the moment she put it in. The battery was dead, but the data inside would stay intact.
Marcus had no idea about Eleven going missing earlier. He sat eating the mammoth Zane had cooked, satisfaction written all over his face, nodding to himself with every bite. “This is incredible. I’m going back out for another one tomorrow.”
Claire almost pointed out that mammoths might go extinct at this rate, but she stopped herself.
/
Mammoths roamed the Beast World in staggering numbers. As long as someone had the strength to take one down, the supply was practically endless, and they weren’t disappearing for tens of thousands of years
She looked over at Davy, sitting in the middle of the youngling pile across the room. He was radiating a steady chill in Eleven’s direction, making his displeasure about the afternoon’s chaos very clear.
Eleven didn’t dare look up and kept his head down, gnawing quietly at his food.
“Mm, mm. This is so good. Best thing I’ve ever eaten,” he mumbled into his plate.
Scarlet shook her head with the gravity of someone twice her age. “Honestly. That little troublemaker deserves a proper scolding.”
The sight of him being so grown up and serious chased the last of the heaviness right out of Claire’s chest.
Even if the phone never turned on again, she’d built the best family she could ever imagine right here in the Beast World. What more could she possibly need?
Under Aurora’s persuasion, the chief and the rest of the clan all learned that Claire was Wanda’s daughter. Not a single clan member objected to Wanda’s belongings passing entirely into Claire’s hands.
After all, the clan still carried the guilt of what happened to Wanda.
From that point on, wherever Claire walked through the clan grounds, the beastfolk she passed would acknowledge her from a distance, bowing their heads or offering a warm smile in greeting.
The attention started feeling like too much. Claire pulled the chief aside and talked it through until he agreed to ask everyone to treat her the same way they always had.
Tyne heard the news too, and when she found Claire, her eyes were already red.
She threw her arms around Claire and cried.
“Claire, your mother didn’t abandon you. She was terrified of you getting hurt, and that’s why she couldn’t keep you close. Back when we were all in the fox clan, we treated you so badly. We were wrong to do that.”
Tyne had once been among those who looked down on Claire for being a daughter whose mother had
