The Ultimate Litter: A Beast World System Tale novel Chapter 351

Chapter 351 Claire, Wait for Me

“1. Will. Not. Die. Here.

Rufus forced the words out one at a time, and pinpricks of starlight suddenly gathered in his hollow eyes.

Not long before, he’d shaken off the lava behemoth chasing him and gotten the wooden box open.

Inside sat a clear vial with a speck of light darting around in it, hurling itself against the walls over and over, desperate to break out of its prison.

“Coreflame, I finally found you!”

He stared through the glass at that tiny tongue of fire, his eyes burning. The purple flame wasn’t even as long as his finger, yet it slammed against the vial like a wild thing, as though it could see him standing on

the other side.

Rufus didn’t hesitate. He brought the vial to his lips.

The instant he pulled the stopper free, he tipped the whole thing into his mouth.

A savage, scorching flame seared through his mouth, burned its way down his throat into his stomach, and left every organ inside him ablaze.

The agony forced Rufus into his beast form, the only shape that stood any chance of withstanding pain that cut all the way to the bone.

The gyrfalcon thrashed and rolled across the ground, scattering feathers everywhere. On the outside, there wasn’t a drop of blood on him, but inside he was already a ball of fire.

He fought the pain down and cried out, “Claire! Wait for me!”

Back at the bonfire party, the celebration was in full swing, with beastfolk singing and dancing.

The bonding ceremony was over, and the only thing left was to send the couples off to their wedding night.

Claire was very curious about what came next, because in her past life she’d never once been to a wedding. She’d never been able to carry a baby to term, and the last thing she’d wanted was to cast a shadow over somebody else’s happy day.

It wasn’t every night that so many beastfolk bonded at once, and the crowd surged toward the newly bonded couples’ wedding chambers.

Claire glanced up, only to find that Gale had already scooped Tyne into his arms and taken flight, headed off to who knew where.

The beastfolk who’d been planning to crash their wedding chamber and give them a hard time all shouted after them. “You don’t get to just run off like that! Gale, you traitor!”

Still, nobody spread their wings to chase them down. They just joined the crowd trailing the other newly bonded couples instead.

Tyne’s cheeks were flushed bright red, and she even waved down at Claire.

“That was fast,” Claire said.

She headed over to Eva and Quentin and joined the other beastfolk crowding around the two of them pair made their way to their treehouse.

The tree where Eva’s family lived wasn’t far from Claire’s place, and three treehouses hung from its branches. The first was where Eva’s mother, Matilda, lived by herself, and the second was Eva’s own, w was where everybody was headed now.

Claire looked up at the largest treehouse at the very top and figured that had to be where Eva’s eight ol brothers lived.

That reminded her of something. Before the beast swarm hit, Eva had told her about Burrow in that hushed, secretive way of hers, and Claire couldn’t help feeling curious.

She hadn’t laid eyes on Burrow once since then.
