Chapter 100 Townspeople and Ventures
“Is Thelma renting a house in our town?”
Finished
“Yeah, she’s been renting for almost two years. I think her daughter wanted her out of the city air, so she arranged a place for her here in the countryside.”
“Have you seen Thelma’s daughter? She’s been to the town a few times too, always with a mask, big sunglasses, and a hat. Hard to tell what she looks like.”
“Nope, very mysterious.”
The townspeople kept chatting, the conversation slowly drifting.
As Scarlett listened, she realized that Thelma’s house at the end of the town was short on help–no one to cook or handle the chores.
She planned to check it out after lunch.
After finishing the meal, Scarlett thanked Victor and Ethel and got ready to leave.
As they were leaving, Ethel kept Selina behind.
Ethel already knew the rules of the show and also knew Scarlett was heading to Thelma’s house for work.
So she said, “Scarlett, go see Thelma’s place. She probably needs help, but she has a temper. Just ask, and if it doesn’t work out, come back, we’ll figure something out.
“Selina, you stay here. Help us a bit around the house for the next few days. We’ll pay you 50 bucks a day, with meals and a place to stay.”
Selina stayed behind, while Scarlett reassured her and headed to the town’s far end.
Before Scarlett left, Ethel insisted on giving her five pounds of pork ribs. She said Scarlett could bring them to Thelma’s and use them for dinner.
Ethel was confident Thelma would want to keep Scarlett–she was beautiful, well–behaved, and an excellent cook.
No one could complain about her.
Scarlett didn’t really want to take the ribs, but Ethel insisted.
It was summer, and meat couldn’t sit out.
Even in a fridge, the elderly couple couldn’t finish it all.
Scarlett finally accepted the five pounds.
The livestream exploded with laughing and teasing comments.
[The old lady is so worried. She is making sure Scarlett has enough to eat tonight.]

Chapter 100 Townspeople and Ventures
Finished
[That’s because Scarlett eats so much! At lunch, she had at least four servings! The townspeople looked a bit stunned watching her. They kept glancing at her stomach, and it was still so flat after eating so much!]
[We’ve been following Scarlett on the show for over two weeks. She eats a ton every meal and never gains weight!]
[At first, I thought she was faking that ‘eat without getting fat‘ persona. Maybe she sneaks off to throw up. But the live feed doesn’t lie–she eats everything right in front of the camera!]
[I’m so jealous. I also want to eat whatever I want and not gain weight.]
Scarlett carried the five pounds of ribs toward Thelma’s house.
On the way, she ran into townspeople leaving Ethel’s.
They were carrying one or two pounds of pork each–gifts from the couple.
Seven or eight townspeople walked ahead.
Nelson, Adam, and the other three guests had stopped at the town entrance to grab some bread for lunch. Full now, they continued into the town, hoping to find work.
They happened to meet these townspeople along the way.
Nelson couldn’t resist and piped up, “Hey, everyone, does anyone need help at home? We can do anything -chores, farm work… We can even sing for you in our free time! Just meals and a place to stay are fine.”
He was starting to sound like a street performer.
Someone asked curiously, “You’re here for a show, right?”
Nelson nodded. “Yes, yes. Does any of you need help at home? We can do farm work too.”
The man asked, “Can you kill pigs?”
“Uh?” Nelson froze. “Kill pigs? No, we can’t.”
Of course, I can’t.
Do they have pigs they need to kill?
The man snorted. “You can’t even kill a pig. Scarlett can do it and make the most amazing pork stew… Can you even cook? And will it taste as good as Scarlett’s? You probably know her–she’s filming with you, same
show.”
Scarlett kills pigs?
The five guests froze.
Nelson made a pitiful face. “No way. I can’t kill pigs, and I’m not a great cook either.”
