The Ultimate Reborn Heiress (Scarlett) novel Chapter 12

Chapter 12 Haunted House

That was her little brother, Rory Sanchez. He was only 14 this year, four years younger than her.

Not long after Rory was born, Daphne slipped into a vegetative state. Hendrix dragged both siblings along, taking any job he could find while still caring for Daphne, and racking up a mountain of hospital bills.

Back when she dropped out of college and returned to Southyra, she was diagnosed with a terminal illness. It was Hendrix who sold the house and borrowed a ton of money to send her to the city for treatment.

She only learned near the end of her previous life that Hendrix had worked himself sick with tuberculosis, but never treated it—he kept every spare cent for her medical bills instead.

After she died, her stepfather probably didn’t last much longer.

Hendrix chuckled on the phone. “Scarlett, keep your money. My paycheck’s enough. I don’t owe the folks back home that much–I can pay it off myself.”

He knew his girl wasn’t exactly thriving in showbiz and flatly refused to take a cent from her.

Scarlett didn’t care. “Dad, it’s already in your account. Don’t you dare send it back. If you do, I won’t take it again.”

With that, she hung up.

Of the hundred grand Cedric had given her, she kept half.

For Elliot’s movie, she’d only get paid after filming wrapped, and the fee wasn’t that high— maybe 200 to 300 thousand dollars at most.

She still had to keep finding ways to make money.

With the forty–odd thousand she’d kept, she planned to buy herbs, make some health- nourishing pills, and mail them back so Hendrix could recover bit by bit.

This lifetime, she was determined to nurse her stepfather back to health.

In just a few days, the new variety show would go live, and she still had no idea what kind of

show it even was.

Scarlett didn’t really care. Whatever came at her, she’d meet it head–on.

In the remaining days, she stuck to her routine of studying, cultivating, and physical training.

This mortal body of hers was still ridiculously weak.

When she’d subdued that attacker at Brookriver Hospital, she’d done it with and timing.

She’d designed a set of fist techniques and sword drills tailored for a human body, and ran through them once a day without fail.

Very soon, the premiere date for the new show arrived.

It wasn’t until the day before the live premiere that Bluebird Entertainment finally revealed the show’s format and announced the full list of regular and special guests.

The show was called “Faces of the Crowd.”

As the name suggested, it was about the countless faces of the world.

It would follow all kinds of everyday people and the way they lived.

It fell squarely into the “slice–of–life” variety category.

Besides Scarlett, there were three other regulars–two men and one woman. The male celebrities were Nelson Douglas and Adam Campbell; the woman was an influencer named Selina Brown. She was a pretty well–known content creator from a good family, with over ten million followers on TikTok, mainly posting food and travel content, and she’d even acted in a role or two on screen.

None of them were signed under the same agency. Nelson and Adam were basically rookies, still relatively unknown.

The internet blew up, too.
