chapter 13 Stress–Bingeing
[The killer acted out of personal vengeance and has already been caught, but this haunted house really is cursed. Since it was sold, it’s been rented to seven or eight different families. At best they just had terrible luck. At worst they ended up in car crashes, broken legs, heart attacks, strokes… It was tragic every single time.]
[Uh, so what is Scarlett trying to pull here? Is she just trolling the production crew?]
Once word got out that Scarlett had given the show a haunted–house address, viewers from other live rooms all flocked over.
In just a short while, Scarlett’s live room shot up to 300,000 viewers.
The production staff braced themselves and went up to ring the door.
The electric gate to the yard suddenly slid open.
The crew all jumped in fright. This was even scarier than if no one had answered at all. The three staffers had no choice but to grit their teeth and walk in.
The yard looked recently cleaned. A few vegetable plots had been dug up on the side, lush green vegetables swaying in the soil, and in the corners stood several young fruit trees and clusters of flowers and shrubs.
“Doesn’t look abandoned at all, does it?”
“They’ve even planted vegetables, fruit trees, and flowers.”
“If no one had said this was a haunted house, it would just look like a cozy, lived–in villa.”
Soon, they reached the front door of the villa.
Before the staff could knock, the door swung open from the inside.
It was Scarlett.
She stood there in comfy loungewear, smiling with crescent–shaped eyes.
[Whoa, beauty critical hit!]
[That’s totally barefaced! Her skin is so pale and smooth, and this is raw livestream footage— there’s not a single visible flaw.]
[Did you guys notice? The scars on her face have all scabbed over–there are only faint marks left. That healed way too fast.]
[Huh? So was she really disfigured or not? Don’t tell me those injury pics she posted were photoshopped?]
Scarlett smiled. “Welcome. Have you three eaten? Want to grab breakfast together?”
She’d just been about to sit down to breakfast.
The three staffers sniffed the air and finally caught the rich aroma of food.
Scarlett gestured for them to come in.
The three of them hovered at the doorway, clearly hesitant.
At last, one of them carefully asked, “Ms. Sanchez, do you …
do you
live here?”
Scarlett understood exactly what they were worried about and smiled. “Come in, it’s fine. You won’t be here long enough for anything to happen.”
With her current cultivation, she could at least keep the dark energy and death energy from seeping into their bodies for a short period.
That was why she still couldn’t move her mom, stepfather, and little brother in here yet.
Only then did the staff tiptoe their way inside.
It was nothing like they’d imagined: the haunted house was big, but it felt surprisingly warm and lived–in.
Scarlett headed back to the dining table.
