Scarlett planned to solve the exam questions right in front of the leaders of Brookriver High. She would prove to them, face–to–face, that she had never cheated.
“Alright, alright,” Norman said with a laugh. “I can help transfer you to Badger High. I used to study there. The principal there used to be my student. He’s a good guy. One phone call and I can arrange the transfer papers.”
Such a talented student deserved a better place. Of course Norman wanted her to go to his alma mater.
Among the high schools in Brookriver, Badger High was considered average.
The best school was Oakridge High.
Next came Brookriver High.
Brookriver High was known as a private academy. It had plenty of money, hired the best teachers, and had the newest equipment. Because of that, its college acceptance rate was quite good.
Badger High, on the other hand, was more ordinary.
But for Scarlett, it didn’t really matter which school she went to. What mattered more was the atmosphere. She actually preferred a school with a better environment.
“Alright. Thank you, Norman,” Scarlett said.
Norman chuckled. “Do you still want that guaranteed college admission spot?”
Scarlett smiled and shook her head. “Thank you, but I’ll pass. Give that opportunity to someone who needs it more. I’ll get into college on my own. Also, after I transfer to Badger High, I’d like to move into the science track.”
In the future, the major she wanted would probably involve physics, chemistry, and math.
She also wanted to do something for her country.
After all, everyone hopes their country will grow stronger and more prosperous. She was no different.
Norman misunderstood her intentions.
Since Scarlett already knew how to restore old buildings, he assumed she loved architecture, Architecture belonged to engineering, which was also part of the science track. He thought she planned to study architecture in college.
Naturally, he supported that idea.
“Great. I’ll call the principal of Badger High now. You can transfer into the science track.”
For a student as smart as Scarlett, switching tracks halfway through the year wasn’t something he worried
about.

Their conversation ended.
Norman then called the principal of Badger High, Harvey Rice.
Harvey answered the phone quickly, his voice respectful.
“Professor Cox?”

Norman laughed. “Harvey, I’m sending a student your way. Do you have a 12th–grader transferring in? I guarantee that within a year, Badger High could produce a top SAT scorer from the science track.”
Harvey was surprised. He hadn’t expected Norman to call to recommend a student–especially such an outstanding one.
He trusted Norman completely. If his professor said the student could become a top SAT scorer in a year, then he believed it.
“Of course I’d accept them, teacher. Which city is the student transferring from?”
Norman replied, “From your own town. Brookriver High. A 12th–grader named Scarlett. You’ve probably heard of her.”
All the high schools in the area shared news quickly, especially about seniors. Of course Harvey had already heard what happened at Brookriver High that day.
A student named Scarlett had scored 1590 on the mock SAT.
Rumor said the school leaders at Brookriver High were shocked. They didn’t believe she could get such a
score.
After all, Scarlett once had a record of cheating.
So the school leaders discussed it for a long time. In the end, they decided she would retake the test the next day, with several administrators watching.
Principals and teachers from nearby schools were all waiting to see the result.
They wanted to know what score Scarlett would get tomorrow.
Was it real talent or cheating?
But even Norman had spoken highly of her.
Harvey immediately understood that the cheating incident must have been a misunderstanding.
“Professor Cox,” Harvey said, “when will Scarlett transfer? Won’t she still take the retest at Brookriver High
tomorrow?”
Norman laughed. “She’ll transfer tomorrow afternoon. She still has to take the retest tomorrow morning
She still had to retake the exam?
Harvey paused for a moment.

If she’s already transferring to Badger High, why bother?
Then he quickly understood.
The girl simply wanted to prove herself. She wanted to show those school leaders at Brookriver High the truth.
She had real ability, but she no longer planned to stay at their school.
Harvey smiled. “Alright, I understand.”
After hanging up, Harvey felt delighted.
Any student that Norman personally recommended had to be exceptional.
Early the next morning, Scarlett finished her usual training and study routine. After breakfast, she headed
out.
Today the school was holding the opening ceremony for the new semester.
The principal, several homeroom teachers, and some outstanding students were supposed to give speeches on stage.
But the vice principal and several other administrators didn’t attend.
They were busy supervising an exam.
And Scarlett, of course, didn’t attend the ceremony either.
She was taking the retest.
At the ceremony, students from Class H whispered among themselves.
“Why isn’t Scarlett here?”
“She’s retaking the exam in the administrators‘ office.”
“Wait, she’s really retaking it? With several school leaders watching?”
“Of course she is. So what do you think she’ll score this time?” Someone snorted. “Well, this time the administrators are monitoring the whole exam. There’s no way she can get the questions ahead of time.”
Another student shrugged. “It’s simple. Either she does terribly, which proves she cheated, or she scores just like the mock test. And if she does, it means she never cheated at all.”
