Chapter 27 Raymond Comes Calling

Although they were all still basic home–style dishes, the flavor was anything but ordinary.

They were so good that they made you want to swallow your own tongue.

As Selina, Nelson, and Adam ate, they were both conflicted and blissed out.

All three normally ate only half a plate of rice at night to keep their figures.

When Scarlett said she was treating them to a feast, they’d planned to just have a taste and leave it at that.

But it was simply too delicious–there was no way to just nibble.

So, the three of them simply gave up and ate to their hearts‘ content.

Food this good was a rare blessing. Who knew when they’d get to taste it again?

“Sob, just how good is that food? Do you people know how self–disciplined our Selina is? At five–star restaurants, she can stop after just a few bites.”

This came from one of Selina’s longtime fans, who knew exactly how strict she was about maintaining her figure.

In fact, most celebrities in the industry were so disciplined that they basic didn’t eat dinner at all.

“It really does look delicious, slurp… I’m starving just watching.”

“So, why is it that everything Scarlett cooks turns out this tasty?”

“I heard her original family situation wasn’t great—her mom’s sick, her dad divorced her mom, and only got rich afterward. She had a rough childhood, so she probably started helping with the cooking really young.”

“But how come Scarlett can eat and eat and never gain weight? I’ve watched her put away three full meals now, each one several times a normal person’s portion, and her stomach doesn’t even bulge.”

Someone had finally voiced what everyone was wondering.

Even the other crews could only squat to the side and stare enviously.

Michael was the same.

One of the staff couldn’t stand it anymore and whispered, “If you’re not going to feed us, fine, but how can you not even give Mr. Woods a taste?”

Scarlett still wore her usual sunny smile, but what she said made Michael regret all his life choices.

“The pot’s too small. I can’t cook that much. A bigger pot means buying a new one, and cooking in bulk is expensive—just think how much food it chews through, right, Mr. Woods?”

Serves him right for being heartless and only giving them 200 dollars apiece, without even providing basic bedding.

“Hahaha, I wonder if this counts as Michael digging his own grave.”

“Looks like that 200 dollars each really left the guests salty.”

“Honestly, though–no pillows? Especially for Brianna and Zayden, tonight’s going to be rough.”

In the end, the other staff and even Michael did get a taste of Scarlett’s cooking.

She gave them a platter of big shrimp, so each person got two.

One bite and Michael regretted it even more–the shells were crisp and rich, the meat bouncy and sweet, all coated in glossy sauce. How could good?

Out in the living room and in the livestream, everyone was chatting and laughing, the atmosphere warm and cozy.

Meanwhile, Brianna stayed holed up in the bedroom, crying.

Half of it was hunger and the other half was pure anger.

She was furious that Scarlett hadn’t given her the slightest bit of face.

After dinner, Selina and the other two cleaned the kitchen. Meawhile, Scarlett headed to a nearby mall to buy bedding–now that she had money, of course, she wanted to sleep comfortably.

She picked out silk bedding and dropped nearly two thousand on it.

That night, after studying and cultivating, she slept like a queen.

She had maybe a few dollars left, barely enough for food.

In the end, Zayden scraped together 100 dollars and added it to Brianna’s money so she could at least buy some bedding for herself.

She still turned up her nose at it, though. The cheap smell bothered her so much she could hardly sleep all night.

Zayden, meanwhile, just lay on the bare mattress with nothing else.

By morning, his whole body was stiff and sore.

At dawn the next day, Scarlett got up early to cultivate and study.

By the time the livestream kicked off at 7.30 a.m., she’d already finished breakfast.

Quite a few viewers were a little disappointed—they’d wanted to see whether she’d eat as much as she had the day before.

As the stream started, the other five guests were only just waking up.

They still looked groggy and half–asleep.
