The Ultimate Reborn Heiress
Chapter 348 The Bone Test
“Nala! Beef bone!”
Warren held it up.
Normally, those two words were Nala’s biggest trigger.
The moment she heard “beef bone,” she knew it meant a reward.

Every time, she’d charge over, Warren would toss it into the air, and she’d launch into a perfect leap, snatch it mid–flight, land clean, and settle in for a happy gnaw session.
This time, she just glanced up, then went back to lapping at the water.
Warren stared at the massive bone he’d hand–picked from the butcher’s. It was big enough to keep Nala busy for hours.
Why wasn’t she reacting? Was the medicine that bitter?
Was that why she was chugging water?
It seemed that the medicine was really bitter.
He walked over and watched as Nala finished every last drop.
He was starting to fear that the medicine was too bitter for her own good.
To his surprise, Nala drained the entire bowl, then carefully licked every droplet clinging to the
rim.
Vivian’s eyes went wide. “Good grief. That medicine must have been incredibly bitter.”
Scarlett didn’t correct them. She just smiled.
Once Nala had finished, Warren tossed her the bone.
She leaped, caught it, landed, and settled down to gnaw,
But Warren noticed something. Nala wasn’t chewing with her usual gusto. She kept glancing back at the empty water bowl.
Must be a seriously bitter aftertaste.
Warren also gave the old Labrador a bone.

The dog was 14 years old.
:
Scarlett learned from Vivian that the Lab’s name was Buster.
Buster was a retired police dog, formerly handled by Warren’s late mentor.
After the mentor passed, Warren adopted Buster.

Scarlett made an excuse to get more water for Buster. She went to the kitchen and came back with a bowl that was, in fact, spiritual essence water.
She set it in front of Buster. “Here, boy. This one’s yours.”
Buster lifted his old head, as if he could hardly believe it.
He’d smelled the spiritual essence water when Nala was drinking. He’d known instantly it was something extraordinary.
He’d lain there watching, eyes locked on the bowl.
But he was a police dog.
He knew that water was Nala’s. No matter how much he wanted it, he wouldn’t steal from her.
And now, this human had given him his own bowl.
Buster abandoned his bone and drank with abandon.
Warren and Vivian exchanged baffled looks.
Buster was chugging water, too?
It was tap water from their own kitchen.
Was he that thirsty?
Buster licked the bowl spotless, then went back to his bone, perfectly content.
Once both dogs were busy gnawing-
Warren couldn’t help asking, “Ms. Sanchez, how long until Nala’s fully recovered?”
Scarlett said, “She’s already recovered.”
“What?”
Scarlett replied, “Her sense of smell is back. She just needs two more sessions and two more

doses to consolidate it.”
Father and daughter stared, slack–jawed.
Just… like that?
:
Warren grabbed a small toy from inside the house. “Nala! Sniff this. Then find it.”
Nala sprang to attention, trotted over, and took a long sniff of the toy in his hand.
Warren went upstairs to the second floor, found a spot, and hid the toy.

He picked a sneaky place–up in the attic over the second floor, tucked inside a wooden box.
If Nala’s sense of smell hadn’t returned, she’d never find it there.
He came back down. “Nala, search!”
Nala shot into the house.
Less than thirty seconds later, she trotted out with the toy in her mouth and dropped it at Warren’s feet.
Vivian was beside herself.
“Her sense of smell is really back!”
She looked at Scarlett with starlit eyes. “Scarlett, you’re incredible!”
Scarlett smiled. “Nala’s loss of smell wasn’t actually pathological.”
“What does that mean?” Vivian blinked.
Scarlett turned to Warren. “Nala stood out from the very beginning of training, didn’t she?”
Warren nodded. “She was the biggest and strongest in her litter. Even as a newborn, she drank the most milk.
“She was born at the training facility, so our team raised her from day one. The mother couldn’t produce enough milk for the whole litter, but Nala was the only one who cried and cried until we gave her extra goat’s milk on the side. After weaning at two months, she was the only one from the litter who passed the selection for police dog training.”
