Ivy was overjoyed to see Scarlett and chattered away in a small, sweet voice.

Scarlett answered every question patiently.

After a little while, Ivy leaned in and whispered in Scarlett’s ear, “Scarlett, tonight Nathan and I want you to come to our house for dinner. I have a secret I want to tell you. Okay?”

Scarlett looked at her.

Both siblings went pale.

Cody continued, “They said Weston contacted them and ordered Ivy’s kidnapping. The plan was to hide for a few days and wait for further instructions. The 50–million ransom demand was also Weston’s idea–a cover to make it look like an ordinary abduction.”

With the confession in hand, they’d already contacted law enforcement in the coastal city where Weston lived. Officers were on their way to arrest him.

They were also pulling his financial records and building the evidentiary chain.

Cody hesitated, then couldn’t help asking Nathan, “Nathan… do you have any idea why your father would kidnap your sister?”

Nathan raised his head. “Probably the company shares. Before he married into the Johnson Group, he signed an agreement. If he ever had additional children, his stake in the company would pass to Ivy and me. Maybe that’s why he went after Ivy. He knows that if something happened to her, I’d fall apart.”

That was a plausible motive.

But Cody sensed there was more.

These two were clearly hiding something bigger, something stranger.

Was that deeper secret the real reason Weston had kidnapped his own daughter?

If Cody hadn’t already seen the sigils Weston had used–occult tools that had no place in an ordinary custody dispute–he might not have pressed the thought.

But the occult connection meant Weston’s true objective was likely something far beyond corporate

shares.

He also hadn’t been in a rush to kill the children after the kidnapping.
