Chapter 360 The Treasure Hunter
Even as the question left her lips. Scarlett understood in that very instant.
The answer was already taking shape in Scarlett’s mind.
She carried something inside her, too–the crystal bead and its spiritual essence.
But she knew that what Ivy was about to say would be entirely different.
Ivy’s secret would answer questions Scarlett had been carrying for a very long time.
Ivy swallowed. “Scarlett, I don’t know what it’s called, either. It appeared when I was three. It says its name is “Treasure Hunter.”
Treasure Hunter?
Scarlett’s mind jolted as if a bell had been struck
She understood now.
She finally knew how Leona had identified the crystal bead as a treasure, and how Matthew had known. about the Sanchezes’s antique plates.
Of course.
Treasure Hunter.
The name said it all.
It sought the treasures of this world.
Leona had one, too. She was certain of it now.
Ivy had one. Leona had one.
Which meant there could be countless more.
The crystal bead was likely a natural inheritance–spiritual energy condensed by heaven and earth over millennia.
But these Treasure Hunters–what were they?
Where did they come from?
Scarlett thought of Yvonne, poisoned by a substance that didn’t exist in this world.
Whoever had targeted Yvonne probably carried a Treasure Hunter, too.
These Treasure Hunters seemed to be parasites, latching onto human hosts and compelling them to find treasures in exchange for rewards.

Any reward at all?
If Yvonne’s poison didn’t belong to this world…
Finished
Then these Treasure Hunters came from somewhere else entirely. Another dimension? Another plane? Another world?
Ivy clutched Scarlett’s hand. her voice small and uncertain as she went on. “When I was three, I didn’t understand what it was. It just kept talking in my head, saying it could help me find treasures, and if I gave the treasures to it, it could trade them for anything I wanted. I was so scared. I didn’t even dare tell Nathan. I just… kept it inside.”
The room was still. Only Ivy’s thin, bewildered voice filled the space.
Neither Scarlett nor Nathan spoke
Back then, little Ivy hadn’t understood what was happening. She’d had no concept of what a Treasure Hunter was.
Thqir mother had just died. Nathan was grieving.
She couldn’t bring herself to add to his burden.
Ivy’s quiet voice continued.
“Sometimes, when I saw something, it would tell me. That’s a treasure–take it and give it to me. I’ll give you points. Points can buy wonderful things.”
Back then, Ivy had been terrified.
But because the thing calling itself Treasure Hunter was always muttering in her head, it didn’t actually seem like it wanted to hurt her.
She was small, but even then, she understood that it probably wouldn’t hurt her for no reason.
Little by little, she stopped being quite so afraid.
And Treasure Hunter just kept talking to itself.
Later, even when she had no points at all. it showed her the things points could be exchanged for.
There were all kinds of things–an impossible, messy assortment of everything.
Treasure Hunter had told her. What do you want? Find me treasures, trade them for points, and I’ll even pay you in cash. With enough points, you can have anything.”
Ivy, in her tiny voice, had asked. “If I find you treasures… can you bring my mommy back to life?”
The Treasure Hunter had gone quiet for a long time. Then, reluctantly, it replied. “No… I can’t do that.”
Ivy had humphed. “If you can’t even bring Mommy back, then what good are you? I don’t want anything. I just want Mommy.

Chapter 360 The Treasure Hunter
The Treasure Hunter fell silent after that.
It didn’t speak again for a long time.
As if it had run out of words.
Eventually, it rallied and started chattering again, trying to coax her into helping.
But Ivy never responded to it again.
When she turned four, old enough to understand a little more-
She finally told Nathan.
He had gone silent for a long time after hearing it.
Finished
Then, he’d told her, “This secret must never, ever be shared with anyone else. Not even their father.”
Ivy was too young to grasp the implications. Nathan wasn’t.
He still didn’t know where the Treasure Hunter came from or why it had chosen Ivy.
But he understood what it was–a thing that could choose an ordinary person and hand them the world.
It was Pandora’s box. Once opened, the desires would never stop.
And those desires would drag you into the abyss.
That was why Nathan had never allowed Ivy to search for treasures on the Treasure Hunter’s behalf.
He forbade her from carning points or redeeming anything.
Two or three years had passed, and Ivy had never found Treasure Hunter a single treasure.
