Chapter 42 Scarlett Gets to Work

Hendrix still wasn’t sure. “Let’s see how Summy docs after taking the medicine.”

The siblings stopped persuading him.

After dinner, Scarlett taught Hendrix and Rory a basic boxing routine.

The set had 49 moves in total.

By the time they learned half of them, they were both completely exhausted.

Scarlett decided to continue the next day.

At least they needed to learn all the moves first so they could practice on their own later.

The next morning, right after breakfast, Scarlett got busy in the yard.

She fixed the old medicine cabinets, boxes, and tools her grandpa had left behind.

She already knew the herbal tablet would work well on Sunny.

The ancient prescription itself was good, but it worked so fast because the medicine was cooked with well water infused with spiritual essence.

One tablet was enough to stop Sunny’s coughing.

If she guessed right, the Stephensons would come by soon to say thank you.

First, fix up everything her grandpa had left.

In the yard, she carved and shaped some wood.

Hendrix and Rory later realized that Scarlett hadn’t used a single nail, yet she repaired all the medicine cabinets, boxes Patrick had left behind, and even some wooden furniture.

Both of them were shocked.

Not a single nail was used. How were all the joints fitted together so perfectly?

“Scarlett, how did you do that?” Rory was curious.

She had only been in the city for five years, but … it felt like she could do everything now.

“Oh,” Scarlett said, making things up. “It’s an old carpentry method–kind of like puzzle pieces fitting together. I read about it in a book when I was young and memorized it. I didn’t even know if it was real back then. But, look, it works.”

Rory scratched his head and didn’t think too much about it.

He just felt like his sister was getting more and more amazing.

Just as she finished, Alice showed up.

She brought the Sanchezes a basket of chicken eggs and duck eggs.

She thanked Hendrix and said, “Thank you so much for that herbal tablet. Sunny took one last night, and the coughing stopped right away. He didn’t cough today, and he even ate a big breakfast!”

Hendrix smiled. “No problem. I’m just glad the medicine is working. Just make sure he takes it on time every day, and don’t let him eat heavy, greasy meat before bed.”

“Okay.” Alice hesitated, then said awkwardly, “And, I also want to say sorry to Scarlett. She came to deliver the medicine last night, and I was pretty rude.”

“Don’t worry about it,” Hendrix replied.

They chatted a bit at the door.

Hendrix also explained that this wasn’t a miracle cure.

It just helped regulate Sunny’s digestion and improve his overall health.

Now it was pretty run–down.

The wooden windows were rotten, the roof leaked, and the inside was filled with unused junk.

Scarlett looked up at Hendrix while she was working.

Hendrix smiled back, his eyes a little wet.

Scarlett had known the Stephensons would come to thank them.

She had already planned everything for him.
