Sophia looked at Scarlett, excited. “Ms. Sanchez, can I go inside and take a look? Can I take some pictures?”
Scarlett nodded. “Of course.”
She stepped aside. The old lady hurried in, with Alina and Milo right behind her.
Seeing that, Scarlett knew she wouldn’t be leaving anytime soon and followed them into the yard.
Alina felt a little embarrassed. “My mother–in–law is a professor of architecture. She’s obsessed with old buildings, especially wooden ones.”
Scarlett smiled. “It’s fine. I’m glad she likes it.”
Once inside, Sophia didn’t waste any time.
She took photos of the wooden roof from every angle. Then she opened a group chat and sent over a dozen photos she had just taken.
Pretty soon, someone replied.
Wade Ramos was the first one to reply, “Sophia, where did you get these photos? Online? This looks like a building that was just restored. It hasn’t even been painted yet. The main structure and the windows below are still pretty beat up.”
The old lady had a lovely name.
Sophia.
Sophia Manning.
Her husband’s last name didn’t sound great, so her son and grandson took hers.
Nicholas Walker also replied, “This technique… It’s not just the original joinery, right? It looks like there are other wooden construction techniques that were supposed to be lost. And that carving style, too.”
Skyler Lipsey replied, “Sophia, are you trying to find this place? Hard to tell if it’s even in Dragoria. A few pictures aren’t enough. Honestly, if someone had this level of wooden architecture skill, they would’ve been discovered already. We have tons of ancient wooden buildings waiting to be restored.”
“But these photos only show surface–level repairs. To truly save those old landmarks, you need to understand the actual structure and fix the foundations. Man, in a couple more years, a lot more historic buildings will probably be gone.”
Wade replied, “Not necessarily. This could be done by some old craftsmen living quietly in the mountains.”
Nicholas said, “Even so, there’s no way one person knows that many different techniques at once…”
Seeing the group start to argue, Sophia quickly sent another message.
“Stop fighting. I found this at a regular house in Deerold Town.”

Wade was shocked. “Sophia, are you serious?”
Skyler said, “Quick! Ask the owner which carpenter they hired. If they’re local, that’s incredible. I wonder if we could invite them to restore ancient wooden heritage buildings…”
Only then did Sophia look at Scarlett again.
She hesitated for a second before asking. “Ms. Sanchez, may I ask who restored the roof of this wooden house? Did the same old craftsman carve those curved caves?”
She already had a fixed idea in her mind. Someone who could restore a roof and carve such elegant eaves had to be an old master craftsman.
Could it have been Scarlett’s father?
Out of the three people in the yard, Hendrix looked the most like that kind of old craftsman.
Or maybe they hired another old craftsman from the town?
Sophia wasn’t sure.
Before Scarlett could answer, Rory leaned in and said, “You mean this roof? My sister just fixed it today. She carved those eaves herself this afternoon!”

Sophia froze. She stared at Rory without blinking.
No way.
Her first thought was that the boy was lying.
How could an 18–year–old girl know real ancient joinery? How could she understand several ancient wooden structures and carving techniques?
And he even said all four eaves were carved in one day.
Even the master woodcarvers she knew needed two or three days just to finish one eave.
And honestly, the ones on this roof looked even more impressive than what those masters made.
Hendrix walked over, too. “Yeah, my daughter did it today. I’m planning to reopen my father–in–law’s old clinic, so she said she’d fix up the consulting room her grandpa left behind.”
Alina was stunned.
Scarlett knew wood carving? And an ancient wooden construction, too?
Sophia looked at Scarlett. “D–did you restore it? You carved it yourself?”
Scarlett nodded. “Yes.”
While looking at Sophia, Scarlett was thinking about something else.
She remembered this woman from her past life–not because they had met, but because she knew what happened to her.

Back then, after Leona told her that Rory had caused a child’s death, the child’s grandmother couldn’t take it and later hanged herself.
Sophia still couldn’t believe it.
This completely shattered what she thought she knew.
Scarlett saw the struggle on the old lady’s face.
She understood exactly what she was on.

Since she wasn’t in a hurry to go back to the city, picked up a piece of wood nearby, grabbed a very ordinary small knife, and casually started carving.
