‘Gemma, don’t make a scene.” Zoey took a deep breath, then asked quietly.

‘Do you know what’s going on with your dad?

‘He’s under investigation right now. Someone sent a report letter to the authorities. Inside were letters written in your father’s handwriting. The envelopes were fake, but the writing is his…”

‘Mom, I–I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Gemma panicked and quickly changed the topic.

‘Anyway, you can’t just recognize some random girl as your daughter. Even if you feel sorry for that trash. you can’t take her in as an adopted daughter.

“If you do, I’ll be mad. I’ll never come home again!”

With that, Gemma hung up.

The word “trash” clearly referred to Callic.

That “trash” was her real daughter.

After hanging up, Gemma was still furious. She worried her mother might suddenly feel pity and bring that trash home as an adopted daughter.

Half an hour earlier, she had received a message from Hazel. She immediately called Hazel to ask what was going on. Hazel explained everything in detail.

After hearing it, Gemma cursed Hazel angrily.

“What’s wrong with your family? Even when people raise a dog, they know to keep it on a leash. Why did you let your dog out to bite people?”
