Felice stood with her back to Camilla.

When she heard what Camilla said, Felice sent Nathalie a smug little eyebrow raise. Nathalie’s hands curled into fists, her whole face dark with anger, but she forced herself to hold it in. Felice had definitely done that on purpose.

Felice actually looked a bit disappointed when Nathalie didn’t explode.

Nathalie’s self-control was impressive these days.

When Felice left the hospital room, Nathalie turned to Camilla. “Why are you always defending her? Is she your real daughter or something?”

Camilla frowned. “What are you even saying? You’re my only daughter. But honestly, you’re nothing like me. You aren’t forgiving, or kind, or even very mature. Felice has been with us for years. Why do you always have to go against her?”

Nathalie didn’t look away. “This was supposed to be my family. You always loved me most… whatever I wanted, you gave me. Then one day, you brought someone else home and I was supposed to just share. When you adopted her, why didn’t you even ask me how I felt?”

She stared, unblinking, at the woman lying in the hospital bed. “Did you really need another daughter that badly? Why did you pick one who’s older than me?”

She’d never understood any of it.

Why?

Felice had just appeared out of nowhere and flipped her whole world upside down.

Her parents’ affection? Gone.

Her favorite toys? Suddenly someone else’s.

Now she was the one branded spoiled and reckless.

But all of it had been hers to start with.

Felice took what was supposed to be hers. Why wasn’t she allowed to be angry about it, or to act out?

“Daniel, what is all this?” Camilla asked, her voice filled with confusion.

Daniel sounded grim. “I’ve thought it over. I’ve decided to transfer five percent of The Blair Group’s shares to Felice. She’s gone through a lot all these years with our family… This is just a bit of compensation from my side. What do you think?”

Camilla’s eyes went wide. “This…”

It was all so sudden.

She looked over at Nathalie and saw her biting her lip, eyes red, her face dark with hurt.

Camilla hesitated for a moment before she spoke. “Daniel, this isn’t something you can just decide. It needs to be approved by the board, and… Nathalie doesn’t even have any shares yet.”
