The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 136

Nathalie didn’t push it. Delivering the earrings wasn’t something that had to happen today.

She nodded. “Okay, I’ll take some time off once we’re done with this project.”

Addis’s expression eased, the stern lines on his face softening just a bit.

He turned to the supervisor. “Where’s Felice? She’s not here yet?”

The supervisor let out a sigh, shoulders dropping, “She called this morning to take a sick day. Said she wasn’t feeling well.”

Addis frowned again. “Such a hassle.”

Nathalie raised her eyebrows, watching silently. Was Felice seriously trying to get under the boss’s skin? Did she really think she could get away with anything just because Lance had her back? If she had no intention of working, what was the point of even coming in?

Shaking her head, Nathalie returned to her desk.

Just then her phone buzzed. Daniel’s name flashed on the screen. She picked up. “Hello?”

Daniel didn’t waste any time. “I talked to your mom. She said none of that ever happened. Nathalie, you’ll really do anything to get what you want, won’t you? Either bring over the sapphires right now, or the share transfer is off. Your call.”

Nathalie’s face tensed. That couldn’t be possible. No way.

“My grandmother told me about it herself. Why would she lie? Maybe my mom just forgot.” Nathalie’s voice was laced with disbelief.

Daniel gave a cold snort. “You think your mother would make something like that up? Enough, Nathalie. Bring the sapphires or let go of the shares. Decide.”

The call ended abruptly.

Nathalie stared at her phone, jaw tight. Not waiting another second, she headed to the balcony and dialed her grandmother.

Three rings, then that familiar, gentle voice answered, “Who is this?”

“Grandma, it’s me.” Her voice softened as she spoke.

They talked a little longer before saying goodbye. Nathalie ended the call and just sat there, her mind spinning.

The only reason she could come up with was their open favoritism toward Felice. It was like Adelaide’s feelings didn’t matter at all. Didn’t Camilla see how often Adelaide clung to old photos, lost in thought?

It all just seemed ridiculous to Nathalie.

Had Felice done something huge for them—maybe even saved their lives? That was the only reason she could imagine for how her parents treated Felice.

Nathalie shook her head. She had to get to the bottom of this.

That evening, she headed back to the Blair house.

Camilla was out front, pruning roses. When she spotted Nathalie, there was a flicker of something in her eyes before she spoke. “Nathalie, you’re home. Have you eaten dinner?”

Nathalie looked right at her. “Why did you lie?”
