The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 138

Nathalie pulled her hand away and frowned, frustration written all over her face. “What proof do you have that my grandmother was a homewrecker? She’s your mother. How can you even say that about her?”

Camilla’s voice tightened with irritation. “I’m not lying to you. I heard it myself when your grandparents were fighting. They talked about things from years ago, and that’s when I found out your grandmother meddled and broke up your grandpa and his first love.”

She paused, almost bracing herself. “Those sapphire earrings were their memento. Your grandmother refused to hand them over. That’s why your grandpa died unhappy and full of regret.”

Nathalie just stared at her, disbelief running through her. “You think a couple of arguments are enough to brand Grandma a homewrecker? I don’t even know who you are right now. Shouldn’t you be defending your own mother? She’s family.”

Her grandmother had always been gentle and kind, with all the elegance and grace of someone raised right. Nathalie just couldn’t picture her doing something so cruel.

Honestly, who really knew what had happened back then? Was there any evidence? Or was this just another story, twisted by memories and old grudges?

There was no way Nathalie would believe Camilla just because of a few bitter words. Her grandmother had always treated her with love. That was who she trusted.

Camilla’s frown deepened. “Why can’t I get through to you? You’re upset I’m not siding with my mother, but what about you? Why won’t you ever support me?”

Nathalie gave a half-smile, but there was nothing warm in it. “Because you don’t even act like a mother. All you care about is that adopted daughter. You never see me.”

Camilla’s face twisted with anger. She lifted her hand, ready to hit Nathalie, but Nathalie took a step back, out of reach. Her voice was icy. “The earrings belong to Grandma. I’m never giving them to Felice James. I don’t care what happened between the older generation. All I know is Grandma’s always been good to me. I won’t let her down.”

She turned and started walking away.

Camilla’s voice came out shaky. “Then don’t expect to get any of the Blair family shares.”

Camilla’s eyes darted around before she nodded. “Yes.”

Daniel looked puzzled, frowning. “Then why does Felice care so much about those earrings? She said they’re really important to her.”

Camilla didn’t answer right away. “That’s none of your business. We already owe Felice enough. Now we can’t even give her this one small thing. What are we supposed to do?”

Daniel went quiet, lost in thought. After a minute he said, “I’ll talk to Lance. He bought the earrings at the auction anyway. If Felice suddenly gave up her shares, he must know the real reason. He’s the one who needs to fix this.”

Camilla let out a long sigh. “Looks like that’s all we can do.”
