The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 150

Lance watched her with those deep almond eyes, his gaze lingering like he was searching her face for something he’d lost. “Nathalie, we used to come here all the time. Don’t you remember?”

Nathalie didn’t reply. Silence from her side of the table said enough.

Lance glanced down at Jasper, who was snuggled in his arms. “What do you want to eat?”

Jasper’s eyes sparkled as he checked out the food already on the table. He pointed at every single dish, one by one. “Lance, I want all of these.”

Lance called the waiter over, asked for another set of cutlery, and ordered a few more plates without hesitating.

Across from them, Gavin sat, basically invisible. He gave a quiet cough, trying to remind everyone he still existed.

Nathalie glanced at him, her voice tinged with apology. “Sorry. This dinner isn’t exactly turning out to be the best.”

Gavin offered a polite, awkward smile. “No, really, it’s fine.”

He looked a bit nervous, glancing at Lance. “Hi, Lance. I’m Gavin, I’m—”

Lance didn’t even look in Gavin’s direction. Instead, he turned to Nathalie. “You didn’t get any dessert. That’s unusual for you.”

Nathalie ignored Gavin, too, standing up as if she was ready to leave. “Gavin, are you finished eating? Do you want me to drive you home?”

Gavin hesitated. He wasn’t in any rush to leave. When else would he get to meet someone like Lance?

“I… I’m not done yet…” He clearly wanted to stick around.

Nathalie frowned, already knowing what he was thinking. She looked at Lance. “This is Gavin, our new manager.”

This time, Lance finally looked at Gavin, his face unreadable but his eyes suddenly chilling a little.

Gavin straightened, his posture going stiff and respectful. “Hello, Lance.”

Lance didn’t react. His voice was cool, almost casual. “Why are you having dinner with my wife?”

Gavin just blinked, caught off guard. “Uh… what?”

Jasper shook his head solemnly. “You didn’t scare anybody.”

Lance looked back at her, a slight smile tugging at his lips.

Nathalie rolled her eyes and turned to stare out the window, her face closing off so completely it didn’t even have the faintest trace of politeness left.

Lance studied her profile. “You still haven’t told me how you’re going to thank me.”

“I’m not,” Nathalie said flatly. “That’s just how I am. Ungrateful. You’d probably be better off divorcing me.”

The smile faded from Lance’s face.

Just then, the desserts arrived. Lance nudged Jasper.

Jasper looked up, then lifted a cup of dessert with both hands and offered it to Nathalie. “Nathalie, have something sweet.”
