The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 163

Bagot finished speaking, then glanced over at Gavin. It was impossible to miss what he meant.

Gavin didn’t react at all, keeping his face calm, like he hadn’t even heard Bagot.

Nathalie just nodded. “Yeah, you’re right. I get it.”

Bagot secretly started to panic. Why wasn’t she responding the way he hoped? And where was Lance? He should have shown up by now. Trying to salvage things, Bagot forced a cheerful smile. “Nathalie, isn’t it boring having dinner with just the two of you? How about I stay and join you? It would be way more fun if we all ate together.”

He was totally unprepared when Nathalie raised her brows and said, “I don’t think that would work. There are some things my manager and I need to discuss.”

Bagot blinked in surprise. “You guys can talk, I won’t tell anyone. Nathalie, don’t you trust me?”

She nodded seriously. “No, I don’t.”

The truth was, as soon as she was gone, Bagot would definitely run off and spill everything to Lance. Nathalie could never trust him with this.

Bagot stood there, stunned and lost for words. Suddenly, Gavin laughed.

Bagot shot him a dirty look. “What’s so funny?”

Gavin gave an innocent shrug. “I just heard something amusing. Am I not allowed to laugh?”

Then he turned to Nathalie with a resigned look. “Your friend is really possessive. Doesn’t even let people laugh.”

Nathalie replied calmly, “He’s not my friend.”

“What? Nathalie!” Bagot looked wounded. “How can you say that? That really hurts, you know.”

While he played it up, Nathalie just met his gaze, her eyes clear. Her tone was almost soft. “Since we met, you’ve always taken Lance’s side. What kind of friends does that make us?”

Bagot could only rub his nose awkwardly. She was right. He met Lance first, and only got to know Nathalie afterward. But looking into her calm eyes, he couldn’t bring himself to argue.

Gavin stood up. “I’m about done. Ready to go?”

“Yeah,” Nathalie answered.

Bagot couldn’t come up with any reason to follow. He watched them leave, looking more troubled by the minute.

Sitting in the car, Gavin glanced at Nathalie. “He warned you about me. What do you think about that?”

Nathalie started the car. “I am being careful.”

Gavin fell silent, a little taken aback. Wow, she was blunt.

Nathalie turned to him, a smile tugging at her lips. “But I don’t think you’re the kind of guy to do anything shady... right?”

Gavin managed a small smile. “Right.”

She looked back at the road. “So, we don’t have to take anything he said seriously. Gavin, where do you live?”

He told her an address.

Nathalie turned the car in that direction.

But they hadn’t made it far when Nathalie realized someone was following them.
