The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 260

Freddy’s eyes grew somber behind his glasses. He looked at the mother and daughter in front of him, both of them trying everything to stop him. He let out a quiet sigh.

“Alright. I won’t go.”

He finally gave in.

“Nathalie, I’m really sorry. I couldn’t find a better doctor,” Freddy said, his voice heavy with guilt.

Nathalie’s lashes trembled, and whatever hope she’d been holding onto vanished.

She squeezed her phone so hard her knuckles turned white, trying to hold herself together. Her voice was rough. “It’s fine. I’ll figure something else out.”

Freddy opened his mouth, wanting to say something more, but Nathalie hung up before he could.

He let out another sigh. The sound of her shaky voice replayed in his mind, making him feel restless and frustrated.

Nathalie stood alone in the corridor. There wasn’t even a breeze, yet she felt freezing, like she’d fallen straight into an endless pit.

Footsteps approached, slow and certain. The presence was familiar. Nathalie closed her eyes for a second.

A low, calm voice spoke by her ear. “Nathalie, have you made your decision?”

She looked up at him. Her eyes felt like strangers even to herself. “Lance, you’re going to regret this.”

“I’m not worrying about the future,” Lance replied, meeting her gaze. “I just want us together. Right now. That’s all I want.”

Nathalie gave a stilted laugh, but inside, all she felt was heartbreak.

She was out of time to hesitate. Her grandmother’s clock was running out.

With a broken, raspy voice, she finally said, “Fine. I’ll withdraw the lawsuit.”

In the next moment, Lance pulled her into his arms.

His embrace was strong, every part of him surrounding her, filling up all the empty cracks.

Nathalie’s body went stiff. Her face stayed pale, showing nothing.

The surgery was set for two days later.

William, the specialist Lance brought in, went over the risks of the procedure with Nathalie, but he tried to reassure her too. He’d done similar surgeries before and knew what to expect.

Some of Nathalie’s tension eased.

Standing at the far end of the hallway, she called Fabian.

He picked up after three rings. “Hey, Nathalie.”

She could barely get the words out. “Fabian, I’m dropping the lawsuit.”

“What? Why?” Fabian’s shock came right through the phone. “What happened?”

Nathalie gripped her phone and told him everything that had happened in the past two days.

“Shit!” Fabian blurted out, unable to hold back. “He’s really something else. After all this, does he still not realize your marriage is done?”
