The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 283

Lance turned to the maid who always looked after Leda and asked, “Where’s her medicine?”

The maid, still shaken from what had just happened, finally snapped to attention. She scrambled to get the medicine and helped Leda swallow it.

A few minutes later, Leda’s color looked a little better, though her expression was still sour.

Lance said, “Fainting won’t solve anything. I mean what I say.”

He glanced at the maid again. “Pack up all of Leda’s things. She’s leaving the day after tomorrow.”

He couldn’t leave tomorrow, not with all the financial matters he had to settle first.

“You’re such a monster. Why couldn’t it have been you who died instead?” Leda bit out the words, glaring at Lance with absolute disgust. “Jackson was such a good kid. He didn’t deserve what happened to him. If he were still here, he’d never treat me like this. He would have respected me. He never would have gone against me.”

Lance gave a halfhearted smile, but his eyes grew even colder. “Jackson’s gone, though.”

“Just my luck. Such misfortune,” Leda cried, her voice trembling with anger and grief. She pointed at both Lance and Nathalie, hurling curses and bitter words at them.

Ignoring her, Lance walked up to Nathalie and took her hand. “Let’s go.”

Nathalie had watched the whole situation unfold like a scene from a drama. She pulled her hand away and raised an eyebrow, voice dripping with sarcasm. “Your grandma looks like she’s about to drop dead from rage, and you still want to leave with me?”

Lance’s gaze locked onto hers, deep and intense. “That’s right. I know I’m going to have a reputation after this, Nathalie. You’re not allowed to leave me.”

Nathalie just let out a short, sharp laugh. “And what does that have to do with me? I only got pulled into this because of you. Do you really expect me to just let everything go because you’re putting on a show now?”

Lance’s face darkened. “Then what do you want?”

“I want a divorce,” Nathalie replied instantly.

“No,” Lance shot back. His tone didn’t leave any room for discussion. “I’ll never agree to it, Nathalie. Not in this life or the next.”

Nathalie’s smirk faded and she turned to walk away.

She picked up her pace, heading for the front gate. There was another car parked there. She wasn’t sure when it had arrived.

Inside sat a broad-shouldered man who eyed Lance up and down, then gave a disdainful snort.

He didn’t say a word, but his meaning was clear as day. A guy like Lance wasn’t worthy of Ms. Blair. As Adelaide’s granddaughter, she deserved someone far better. And Lance? Not even close.

Nathalie climbed into the car. “Take me back to the hospital.”

“On it!” Nicol responded.

The car peeled away, leaving Lance shrinking in the distance behind them.

Nicol glanced in the rearview mirror. “Ms. Blair, I took care of a couple of guys who were tailing us earlier. They were sent by that man, right?”

Nathalie looked at him in surprise. “You handled them?”
