The elevator doors slid open with a soft ding, and Bagot guided Nathalie down the hallway to her apartment. She stopped right at her door and nudged him aside.
“Alright, I’m home. You can go now,” she said, her voice a little firmer than
usual.
Bagot let go of her arm, a bit hesitant. “Okay. I’ll get going then.”
He started to turn back toward the elevator, but after a second’s pause, glanced over his shoulder. “Nathalie, are you really done with Lance?”
Nathalie had already unlocked her door and, without a glance back or an answer, stepped inside and closed the door. It clicked quietly shut behind
her.
Bagot just stood there for a moment, feeling awkward and a little foolish. With a sigh, he walked back into the elevator, pulled out his phone, and sent a quick message.
Bagot: I got her home.
He stared at his phone, but no reply came. That was typical. He slid his phone back into his pocket and left.
After a hot shower, Nathalie started to feel a little more like herself. The buzz from the drinks was fading, but her thoughts still felt slow and tangled. She fixed herself a glass of honey water, hoping it would help.
Her phone buzzed on the table.
Freddy: I made some soup for headaches. Want some? It’ll help in the morning.
Nathalie: No, thanks. I’m alright now.
Chapter 347
Freddy: Okay, just checking.
She set her phone down and rubbed her temples. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw that familiar face from the bar. It felt too familiar, like a shadow she couldn’t shake.
Just then, her phone rang again. This time it was Nicol.
‘Ms. Blair, I made some calls. Lance sent Madonna out of the country a ew days ago, and he planned to send Felice too, but Felice ran off at the airport. They still haven’t found her.”
Nathalie looked up, frowning. “Do you think the person I saw at the bar
could have been Felice?”
Nicol paused. “Maybe. I’m still trying to figure out who helped her and where she’s hiding.”
A chill crawled over Nathalie’s skin. Something just didn’t feel right. Felice was missing. What was she planning?
Her head felt heavy with exhaustion and worry, thoughts moving too slowly. She let out a quiet sigh. “Just keep an eye on things. She probably hates me the most now, so watch my back.”
Nicol’s voice was low and steady. “I will. Don’t worry.”
The days blurred by with work, and soon the last of the audio recordings were done. Adelaide was bouncing back well–well enough for the doctors to let her leave the hospital. They brought her home to The Observatory for her recovery.
Nathalie kept the same caregivers, and she even hired a cook to help out. Adelaide, though, kept hinting that she wanted to go back to her own place.
“Grandma, you’re not completely recovered yet,” Nathalie told her, sitting beside her on the couch. “Who’s going to look after you if you go home?
Chapter 347
Just rest for now, and I promise I’ll let you do what you want once you’re
better.”
Adelaide gave her a gentle smile and nodded. “Alright. I’ll listen to you.”
