“To get everything done here, I’m only sleeping three hours a night,” Lance said, his voice cool and detached. “Tell me, when would I even have time to mess around with you?”
Nathalie clenched her phone a little tighter. “So when are you coming
home?”
Lance paused. “Maybe in seven days.”
‘You’re unbelievable.”
Fury bubbled up inside her, but it was clear from his tone there was nothing left to argue about. She ended the call without saying another
word.
Nathalie closed her eyes and took a long, deep breath, fighting to calm ner nerves before heading back to the living room. Adelaide glanced up at her, concern in her eyes. “What’s wrong, Nathalie?”
‘It’s nothing, really,” she said with a small shake of her head.
She sat beside Adelaide and slipped her arm through her grandmother’s. ‘Grandma, I’m almost done with my current project. I’ve been thinking about starting my own studio.”
Adelaide nodded, a proud smile on her face. “That’s wonderful. Working for yourself is always better than answering to someone else.”
‘Exactly. I want to choose projects I’m really into–stories, novels, maybe even some anime. I’ll be pretty busy, though.” Nathalie squeezed Adelaide’s arm gently. “That might mean I won’t be able to spend as much time with you.”
Adelaide laughed softly. “Don’t worry about me, sweetheart. You go and chase your dreams. I’ll never be the one holding you back.”
“Don’t say that,” Nathalie replied quickly. “You’re my anchor, Grandma.
Chapter 348
Knowing you’re here supporting me gives me the courage to go after anything.”
That brought a genuine smile to Adelaide’s face, and just like that, Nathalie’s plans felt even more real. She dove into her preparations, feeling an unexpected burst of energy.
A couple of days later, Sophia gave her a call.
“Ms. Blair, I think I’m ready to leave the hospital,” Sophia said, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Let’s let the doctor decide that,” Nathalie replied gently. After a moment, she asked, “Are you in a hurry to get out?”
“Yes,” Sophia answered. “I want to start working and pay you back as
soon as I can.”
Nathalie brushed her hair behind her ear. “There’s really no rush. I’ll talk to your doctor and see how you’re doing.”
Sophia sounded disappointed. “Alright then.”
Once the call ended, Nathalie made her way to the hospital and found Sophia’s primary doctor. She wanted the real story. The doctor explained Sophia was fine to walk around, but she needed to avoid anything too
strenuous and should make sure to rest.
Satisfied, Nathalie headed over to Sophia’s room. She had made sure Sophia got a private room, and when she reached the door, she heard Sophia’s voice drifting out from inside.
Peering through the glass, Nathalie realized Sophia was alone, talking nonstop into her phone. Curious, Nathalie listened in for a moment, her eyebrows rising in surprise–Sophia was doing character voices from an anime. Nathalie even recognized it as one of her favorites lately.
Gone was the timid, anxious girl who spoke to her. In the world of voice acting, Sophia sounded confident and completely at ease.
Chapter 348
Nathalie’s mood lifted instantly. Her studio plans were taking shape, but she was definitely short on voice talent. Could this timid girl be the answer?
