Once outside, Nathalie headed toward her car. She suddenly had the creeping sensation that someone was watching her. Every hair on her neck rose. She whipped around, searching for the source.

People flooded in and out of the hospital, each one lost in their own world. Not a single person seemed to be paying attention to her.

Maybe she was just being paranoid.

Still feeling unsettled, she hurried into her car. Her heart hadn’t even slowed when her phone started ringing. She glanced at the screen. Nicol’s name lit up.

The insistent ringtone set her even more on edge.

She answered right away. “Hey, Nicol. What’s up?”

Nicol’s voice was tense. “Ms. Blair, don’t start the car. Get out of there,

right now. I think someone might have tampered with it.”

A cold wave of fear swept over Nathalie. Her heart pounded as she practically leapt out and slammed the door behind her.

Nicol came running from across the parking lot. “I stepped away for a restroom break and had one of the guys keep an eye on things. He just told me someone was hanging around your car for a long time.”

“I’ll call for a tow to get the car checked out. Just grab a taxi home for now, okay?” Nicol said quickly.

here still no clue about who did it?”

Nicol looked troubled. “I’m sorry, Ms. Blair. We haven’t found anything. Whoever it was, they just… disappeared.”

Nearly a month had passed since her last scare. Now it felt like the nightmare was starting up again, and all the progress she’d made calming herself was gone in an instant.

Nathalie forced a steady breath. “It’s not your fault. They’re just really Jood at hiding.”

As Nicol made the call to arrange the tow, she started walking toward the street. She flagged down a taxi and rode straight back to The

‘Nathalie, why are you in a taxi? You look a little shaken. Did something happen?”

Nathalie tried to smile it off. “Nothing serious, Freddy. Why are you home so early?”

Freddy got out and joined her on the sidewalk. “Not much going on at work today, so I slipped out early. By the way, I have some news about that situation you asked me to check out.”
