Chapter 362
Nathalie closed her eyes for a moment, then said quietly, “I’m not feeling well today let’s go in a couple of days, okay?”
Her voice was so hoarse, even saying that much made her throat sting. She pressed her eyebrows together in discomfort.
On the other end of the line, the man went silent. A long stretch of quiet passed. Nathalie thought he must’ve hung up, so she lifted her phone to check, but the call was still connected.
“Hello? Did you hear me?” She closed her eyes and asked softly.
Just then, the call disconnected.
Nathalie stared at her phone in disbelief.
Seriously? Who does that? How rude. Would it kill him to just say if he heard her?
Annoyed, she tossed her phone aside and closed her eyes again.
Her head felt heavy and fuzzy. Soon she slipped into a deep sleep, not worried at all since the housekeeper was there to take care of her.
Later, sometime in the middle of the night, she woke up with her mouth completely dry. She blinked, hazy with sleep, opened her mouth to call out, but no sound came. It was like her voice had disappeared.
She felt like a fish out of water, gasping for something, anything.
Right as she was about to drift back to sleep, a cool, gentle touch landed on her lips. There was a trace of sweet scent in the air.
Nathalie instinctively parted her lips, desperate for a drink.
Drinking while lying down was impossible. She tried to sit up, but her body was weak, her arms unable to lift her.
Suddenly a strong arm wrapped around her shoulders and pulled her upright with ease.
Her body leaned against someone, and the cup found her lips again.
All Nathalie could think about was how thirsty she was. It didn’t even cross her mind to wonder who was helping her.
Warm water slid down her throat, soothing the ache, with just a hint of honey sweetness–exactly how she liked it when she was sick.
That familiar taste made her heart squeeze. For a moment, she felt like she was back in those sweet days from before.

Whenever she got sick, she would turn extra clingy, unable to leave his side. He would sit with her patiently, soothe her fears about getting a shot, and since he knew she hated plain warm water, he’d always add honey, urging her to finish the whole cup.
Now the sadness came crashing in, sharp and bitter. Suddenly she felt unbearably lonely
With both hands, she held the cup tight and drained every last drop.
The relief was instant, like a fish finally slipped back into a river.
“Thank you.” Her whisper was rough, barely audible, but she closed her eyes again.
Her head was still spinning.
The person with her didn’t say anything, just touched her forehead gently before laying her down on the bed.
Nathalie felt herself being lifted, heard the bustle and chatter around her, but everything was foggy. She was just too tired, and soon she was out again.
That night she was lost in a swirl of dreams.
In the dream, she saw clearly that the person pinned under the slab during the earthquake was Jackson. Blood streaked his forehead, and for a moment she could only stare.
