Nathalie turned her face away, refusing to look at him.
A comfortable silence settled over the hospital room. She went back playing games on her phone, the previous heavy moment fading like fleeting interlude.
By evening, she returned to The Observatory to have dinner with her grandmother.
‘How is he doing?” her grandmother asked.
‘He’s recovering well,” Nathalie said.
‘That’s good.” Her grandmother nodded. “He’s young and strong. He’ll bounce back quickly.”
Nathalie offered a bright smile, pulling cut the divorce papers. “We signed these. As soon as he’s fully recovered, we’ll go get the official divorce certificate.”
Her grandmother smiled warmly. “It’s good that you two have finally reached an understanding about this.”
‘Yeah, we have.”
At least for now, that was the plan.
Once everything was safely resolved, they would finalize the end of their marriage.
But right now, their lives were tangled in a web of dangerous mysteries When would it all finally end?
He had promised to investigate for her.
And she would be moving back to Lumina Grand in the next couple of days.
He would be heading there to finish his recovery.
Chapter 297
Nathalie lowered her eyes, her thoughts a jumbled mess.
“Mr. Freddy is here,” the nanny’s voice echoed from the front door.
Nathalie’s heart gave a violent jolt. She turned to see Freddy standing the entryway. Wearing his usual glasses, his handsome face was arranged in a polite, gentle smile. “I made some desserts and though bring them over for you and your grandmother to try.”
Her grandmother’s face lit up. “Freddy! Come in, come in.”
Freddy smiled softly, stepping inside and setting the pastry boxes on side table.
The nanny quickly brought out fresh tea and fruit.
‘Did you finish work early today?” her grandmother asked.
‘Yes, the office was pretty quiet today.” Freddy casually glanced at Nathalie. “Actually, Nathalie and I were supposed to visit a mutual frien earlier, but she had an emergency and had to leave. So I just headed home.”
Her grandmother looked at Nathalie disapprovingly. “How could you stand him up like that?”
Nathalie blinked, offering a helpless smile, “I really did have an emergency. I didn’t do it on purpose.”
Freddy shook his head, coming to her defense. “Don’t scold her, Gran, or she’ll think I came over just to tattle on her.”
Her grandmother laughed warmly. “Oh, you can tattle on her all you want. If she steps out of line, I’ll be the first to set her straight.”
“Gran…” Nathalie looked at her with an exaggerated sigh. “Are you my grandmother or his?”
Her grandmother tapped her playfully on the arm. “Oh, hush. When have I ever actually scolded you?”
The atmosphere was warm and inviting, but Nathalie’s mind was Completely distracted.
Since he was already here, she figured it was the perfect time to draw a line. “Freddy, since you’re here, I actually need to talk to you about work
Of course.”
Freddy stood up and followed her into the study.
The moment the door clicked shut, Nathalie got straight to the point. “I have too much going on right now, and I just don’t have the time or energy to focus on work. I think we need to put our studio project on ho for a while.”
Freddy raised an eyebrow. “What kind of trouble are you dealing with? T me. Maybe I can help.”
Nathalie shook her head. “I can handle it myself. I know it’s abrupt, and I apologize, but I really don’t want my personal issues dragging you down So, Freddy, let’s just pause everything for now.”
A strange glint flashed in Freddy’s eyes. He tested the waters. “Does this have to do with… Lance?”
Nathalie instantly felt her guard go up. He was probing.
She was already being so clear about stepping back, yet he was still pushing.
