Chapter 405
He had only just found out the truth, yet he immediately turned ice-cold toward Nathalie. Deep down, had he ever truly cared about this daughter?
Adelaide couldn’t help but worry. She turned to Nathalie, only to see her staring intently at her phone, her expression completely unbothered.
Adelaide gently took Nathalie’s hand. At the dry, comforting warmth, Nathalie blinked in surprise before flashing a genuine smile.
“I’m perfectly fine, Grandmother.”
A pang of sorrow flashed through Adelaide’s eyes. She knew full well that Nathalie had been pushed past the point of despair; otherwise, she wouldn’t be this resolute
Her poor child.
Watching the tender exchange between them, Daniel’s lips parted as if he wanted to say something.
“Daniel.”
Lance’s voice cut through the air. “I don’t need to teach you what should and shouldn’t be said, do I?”
Daniel let out a harsh scoff and stormed out of the room.
“I know what he was going to say,” Nathalie said softly. She looked at the old woman. “Grandmother, I suppose I don’t have the right to call you that anymore.”
Adelaide lightly smacked her arm. “Nonsense! I acknowledge you as my granddaughter, and I don’t care what anyone else has to say about it!”
Nathalie’s eyes stung, a comforting warmth blooming in her chest. She leaned down and hugged her tightly. “Thank you. You’ll always be my grandmother.”
“Good girl. Don’t let your mind wander to those foolish thoughts. I watched you grow up. I know the kind of person you are. More than a decade of genuine love and companionship means far more than shared DNA,” Adelaide coaxed, gently patting her back.
“Yeah!”
Nathalie nodded emphatically, the heavy stone in her heart finally lifting.
The father who raised her had turned his back on her in a heartbeat, yet the grandmother she rarely saw showered her with unconditional love.
She was still incredibly lucky.
Chapter 405
The test results came back quickly. Camilla’s underlying condition remained the same; she needed complete bed rest and absolutely no emotional distress.
When she was wheeled back into the room, her emotions had leveled out. Yet, her eyes instantly found Nathalie. “Nathalie, regardless of whether we share the same blood, still see you as my daughter.”
“And what about Felice?”
Nathalie met her gaze evenly, a cynical smile curving her lips. “I highly suggest you drop tha illusion. Deep down, you idolize Felice. And the timing couldn’t be better-now you can give her every last drop of your love. I don’t need it anymore.”
“It’s not the same.” Camilla shook her head weakly. “What I feel for her is guilt. But I truly love you from the bottom of my heart.”
Nathalie had zero interest in hearing this tired excuse. She turned to the older woman. “Grandmother, I’ll wait for you outside.”
“Alright.”
She turned and walked out of the room.
The rigid tension in her shoulders finally dissolved. The invisible chains binding her for years shattered, leaving her feeling wonderfully light and free.
If she had known the truth about her parentage sooner, maybe she wouldn’t have spent so many agonizing years twisting herself into knots.
The door clicked open behind her, and Daniel stepped out into the hall. He stared at her impassively. “Nathalie, if you’re so determined to cut ties with us, then you need to repay the debt of raising you. If it wasn’t for us, you’d likely be dead in a ditch somewhere.”
