The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 406

As far as he was concerned, this daughter was nothing but a parasite!

They had given her everything, yet she never once considered repaying their kindness. And now, she had the nerve to burn the bridge completely.

“With how unfilial and treacherous you are, do you honestly think your biological/parents wi ever want anything to do with you?”

Daniel spat the venomous words at her before turning on his heel and storming back into the hospital room.

Nathalie remained completely expressionless.

Not a single ripple of emotion stirred in her heart.

Memories of the past flickered briefly in her mind. If they still loved her the way they had

when she was a little girl, she would be completely shattered right now.

Unfortunately, what ifs didn’t exist.

The hospital door clicked open again, and Lance walked out.

His face was slightly pale, his striking brows pulled together in a tight frown.

“What did he say to you?”

Nathalie shook her head. “It doesn’t matter anymore.”

A dark glint of concern flashed through Lance’s eyes as he stared at her delicate features. “He won’t dare lay a finger on you. You don’t need to be afraid.”

Nathalie looked up, her clear eyes locking onto his. Suddenly, she asked, “Why are you saying this to me now? What’s your angle?”

She paused, then reminded him, “Don’t forget, we’ve already signed the divorce papers.”

Lance’s expression darkened, his tone dipping into a casual drawl. “As your business partner, I’m simply offering you some basic goodwill. What? Is caring about you a crime now?”

His words effectively shut her up.

She wasn’t totally ungrateful, after all.

She fell silent, waiting quietly in the corridor.

Time blurred until her grandmother finally emerged. The old woman looked utterly drained,

an unconcealable sorrow etched into her weary eyes.

Chapter 406

Nathalie’s breath caught. “Grandmother, did you…”

Adelaide took her hand and shook her head. “I was just thinking about the past. If I hadn’t married your grandfather back then, maybe none of this nightmare would have happened.”

Nathalie pressed her lips together, her eyes flashing with complex emotions.

Her grandmother still had a soft spot for Camilla.

After all, she was the daughter she had carried for nine months.

It was Camilla who had systematically pushed her own mother away. As a parent, Adelaide was left entirely clueless as to what she had done wrong to deserve such coldness.

Now that the entire truth was out, the old woman just felt that the whole situation was absurd.

“Is Camilla in here?”

Right then, an aged but sharp voice echoed down the hall.

Everyone turned in unison to see a silver-haired, impeccably groomed elderly woman approaching.

She was leaning heavily on a caretaker as she questioned a passing nurse.
