The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 414

Chapter 414

The doctor gave Lance another thorough examination. “Keep an eye on him. As long as the fever doesn’t return, he’ll be fine.”

Nathalie nodded. “Understood.”

After the doctor left, Nathalie checked the time. “It’s getting late. You should head home

But Sophia insisted on staying. “Let me stay and keep you company. That way we can help each other out tonight.”

Nathalie shook her head. “What about your mom? Go home. I’ll text you tomorrow. If he isn’t discharged, you can come back then.”

Sophia glanced reluctantly at the strikingly handsome man unconscious on the bed, but finally nodded. “Okay, just text me.”

“I will.”

“Goodnight, Nathalie.”

“Goodnight.”

The hospital room quickly fell silent.

Exhaustion washed over Nathalie. She yawned, curled up on the sofa, and closed her eyes.

A faint, ticklish sensation brushed against her cheek, like something softly tracing her skin.

She swatted at it blindly, only to have her hand caught mid-air.

Startled, Nathalie snapped her eyes open. Lance was leaning over her, holding her wrist. Her hand was hovering just inches from his face.

She blinked in confusion for a second before asking, “You’re awake?”

“Is this how you take care of a patient?” Lance countered, his voice raspy.

Nathalie sat up straight, suddenly realizing he was still holding her wrist. She quickly pulled free. “Why aren’t you sleeping in the middle of the night? Can’t whatever you have to say wait until morning?”

Lance slowly straightened his posture. “Go sleep in the bed.”

Nathalie frowned. She glanced at the clock-it was three in the morning. Dawn wasn’t far off.

e shook her head. “No, I’m not stealing a bed from a patient.”

e immediately sat down next to her on the sofa. “I like the couch.”

Nathalie glared at him. “Are you out of your mind?”

He had a perfectly good hospital bed, yet he wanted to fight her for the sofa?

Lance leaned heavily against her shoulder. “Looks like you want to sleep with me. Well, then…”

Before he could finish his teasing, Nathalie shot up from the sofa and marched over to the bed, her face completely deadpan.

Lance, still holding his slouched position, smirked faintly. “Sleep well. You’ll need your energy to take care of me.”

Nathalie simply turned her back to him, refusing to engage.

She really was exhausted, and sleeping sitting up on the couch had been miserable. The moment her head hit the pillow, she was out cold.

Sometime in the hazy depths of her sleep, she felt the blankets shift. A warm, solid body pressed against her back, wrapping an arm around her, radiating a steady heat.

Nathalie frowned in her sleep and mumbled, “Get out.”

When the space behind her fell silent, she assumed it was just a dream and drifted back into a deep slumber.
