Chapter 465

Chapter 465

Nathalie’s eyes stung with unshed tears. She blinked rapidly and looked down, fighting to keep her composure so her grandmother wouldn’t notice anything was wrong. She just prayed that once the poison was entirely out of her system, these lingering symptoms would fade away.

The old woman turned her gaze toward the window. Night had fully falle leaving the outside world pitch-black, but she stared out unblinking. The deep lines on her weathered face seemed more pronounced, and she looked overwhelmingly exhausted.

Nathalie stepped into the bathroom and splashed cold water on her fac to steady herself. Looking up at her reflection in the mirror, an icy resolv settled in her eyes. Letting Daniel and Camilla off the hook right now fel entirely too easy. They had tried to murder her grandmother!

She exhaled a long, shaky breath. She was going to make them pay. She wanted Daniel and Camilla to taste exactly this kind of suffocating despair.

“Why… are you here?”

Her grandmother’s voice drifted in from the hospital room.

Nathalie hurried out and saw Lance walking through the door. The old woman was staring at him with a delayed, dull expression.

Lance immediately noticed her sluggishness. Keeping his face completely neutral, he spoke in a warm tone, “I came to check on you. How are you feeling tonight?”

It took a moment for the words to process. “I’m tired. I want to sleep,” she finally mumbled, shifting her body to lie back down.

Nathalie’s brow furrowed in concern. Her grandmother had already slept for most of the day. Was this really normal? “Grandma, wait just a

second. Let me go ask the doctor,” she urged.

The old woman, who had just pulled the covers back, slowly let them drop and nodded. “Alright. Go ask the doctor.”

Nathalie turned to Karan, the caregiver. “Keep an eye on her.”

“Don’t worry,” Karan assured her.

Lance followed Nathalie out into the hallway. “You really didn’t have to come back,” she told him.

‘I wasn’t comfortable leaving you here alone,” he replied.

What about Jasper? What if something happens to him again?” Natha ooked at him pointedly. “You should go back and stay with him.”

I doubled the security detail. He’s safe,” Lance insisted.

Nathalie frowned slightly but didn’t push the issue since he was so

adamant.

They walked into the doctor’s office, and Nathalie quickly explained her grandmother’s lethargy.

The doctor accompanied them back to the room and performed a brief examination. “It could just be the residual effects of the toxin. We’ll need o keep monitoring her,” the doctor concluded. “We’ll run a full-body sca omorrow to check for any neurological damage.”

Nathalie went pale. “And if there is neurological damage?”
