Felice was clearly surprised, but couldn’t hide her absolute thrill. “Mom, are… are you calling to check on me?”

Camilla offered a soft hum of agreement. “Of course. I raised you. How could I not care about you? Your father misses you terribly, too. He was just too

y back then. Please don’t hold it against him.”

I’m staying with my grandmother. I heard about what happened to Blair Group. Are you and Dad okay? Where are you staying now?” ce asked, genuine concern in her voice.

We had to move,” Camilla lied smoothly. “We sold the old house. The ompany went bankrupt. I never expected Nathalie to be so utterly uthless. Thank God she isn’t my real daughter. Thank God you’re the one I’ve always cherished. Come see us, sweetie.”

“Okay, I’ll visit as soon as I can,” Felice promised. After exchanging a few more brief pleasantries, she hung up.

Camilla looked at her husband, anxiety radiating off her. “Is this really going to work? What if something goes wrong?”

Winnie scoffed coldly. “Daniel is a selfish rat. His company went under, and now he wants to hand you over to Nathalie like a peace offering so she’ll let him off the hook. Why else would he wait this long to reach out? Felice, don’t be a fool. Do not let your guard down, and absolutely do not feel sorry for them.”

Felice looked heartbroken. “Grandma, I really was tempted. They used to be so good to me.”

“And you paid dearly to keep them happy,” Winnie said, gently stroking her granddaughter’s cheek. “Don’t let them distract you right now. Your only priority is getting your son back. Do whatever it takes to stay by his side. That’s your only ticket to a secure future!”

The hesitation vanished from Felice’s eyes, replaced by steely determination. “I know. I’ve already gotten in touch with Jasper’s kindergarten teacher. It won’t take long for me to earn her trust. Then I’ll finally get to see my boy.”

Daniel’s face twisted into an ugly scowl. “Ungrateful brat! We kindly adopted her, and this is how she repays us!” He pointed a finger at Camilla. “Call her again!”

With a heavy sense of dread, Camilla dialed the number. Instead of a ringtone, an automated voice played over the line.

“We’re sorry, the number you have dialed is no longer in service…
