The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 505

The night was thick and heavy, the moonlight stretching his tall silhouette across the courtyard of Lumina Grand. Surrounded by a cold, isolating aura, Lance pulled a cigarette from his pocket and lit it.

The harsh nicotine filled his lungs, numbing his fraying nerves. He glanced up at Nathalie’s bedroom window, the pale smoke blurring his sharp, striking features.

Nathalie was tossing and turning. Half-asleep, she sensed someone standing by her bed.

She opened her eyes and saw a shadow looming over her.

Covering her eyes with her arm, she frowned. “Are you a ghost or something?”

_ance pulled back the covers and climbed into bed, pulling her into his arms. “Nathalie…”

The stench of tobacco hit her instantly. She shoved him away. “Get up. Don’t touch me!”

But Lance only held her tighter. “Nathalie.”

A sudden wave of nausea washed over her. “Get up. I’m going to throw up…”

Lance froze and immediately let her go.

Nathalie scrambled out of bed, sprinting to the master bathroom where she dry-heaved over the sink.

Lance followed her, his dark, predatory gaze fixed heavily on her back. “Are you pregnant?”

Nathalie glared at him through the mirror. “You reek of smoke! It’s making me sick.”

She rinsed her mouth, the nauseating feeling subsiding. Her racing heart began to settle.

She shot him a cold look. “I take my pills every time. Did you forget?”

Lance’s expression darkened. He stopped halfway across the bathroom. “You don’t need to take them. I’ll use protection.”

“Ha…”

Nathalie scoffed. “Then why did you even bother getting your vasectomy reversed?”

Silence descended over the bathroom.

She brushed past him and went back to bed.

But the sheets and pillows now smelled like his cigarette smoke, making her skin crawl.

Frustrated, she dragged out a fresh set of sheets and changed the bed ight then and there.

_ance retreated to his own room. When he returned, he leaned in slightly. ‘I showered. The smell is gone.”

She held her breath the moment he got close, but seeing as he had no ntention of leaving, she forced herself to relax.

He smelled like clean body wash now; the sickening scent

was completely gone.

Nathalie simply turned her back to him.

of nicotine

Lance lay down behind her, wrapping an arm around her waist and resting

his forehead against her shoulder.

The room grew perfectly still.

Nathalie felt a gnawing anxiety. She had never reacted to the smell of smoke like that before. Had the pills failed?

Was she really pregnant?

She needed to get a pregnancy test tomorrow.
