The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 510

Chapter 510

Chapter 510

When Sophia opened her door and saw Lance standing there, her eyes widened in pure shock. Her heart began hammering against her ribs, and a flush crept up her cheeks. Her fingers tightened around the doorframe as a wave of nervous excitement and secret anticipation washed over her.

He was actually coming to see her this late at night.

“Mr. Adams, is there something you need?” Sophia asked, desperately trying to keep her voice steady and her crush hidden.

“Step outside.”

Lance ordered coldly. He kept his distance, his gaze barely grazing her face, before turning and walking down the hallway.

Sophia followed, her eyes glued to his broad shoulders. He was dressed in a dark dress shirt, one hand casually slipped into his pocket. The man radiated a cold, untouchable elegance that made her heart race uncontrollably.

What was she going to do?

She was falling harder for him by the second.

She quickly lowered her head and took a few deep breaths, forcing herself to suppress her feelings. He couldn’t find out.

He wasn’t divorced yet, and she refused to be a homewrecker. Plus, Nathalie had been nothing but kind to her. She couldn’t betray her.

When they reached the lounge area in the basement, Lance sat down on the sofa. Looking at Sophia standing nervously a few feet away, he cut straight to the chase. “What were you two doing at the hotel?”

The question completely caught her off guard. For a second, her mind blanked.

She looked up at him, but the moment she met his icy, predatory gaze, she immediately looked away. “Um… I spilled something on my clothes. Nathalie just took me there to clean up.”

Lance let out a dark chuckle.

So, they really were best friends. She was actually covering for her.

Lance stated, his voice dangerously low, “The fact that I’m asking you means I already know you went to a pharmacy. I know exactly what you bought. So tell me the truth, or you can pack your bags right now.”

Sophia’s chest tightened, the color draining from her face. This man was gorgeous, but he was absolutely terrifying!

The pressure he exuded was suffocating.

She bit her lip, looking genuinely torn. “Mr. Adams, why don’t you just ask Nathalie…?”

Lance’s eyes narrowed. “So you really do want to be fired.”

He stood up and headed for the stairs. “Pack your things. Don’t bother showing up tomorrow.”

“No!”

Sophia blurted out, stepping forward in a panic. She was on the verge of tears. “Mr. Adams, why are you doing this to me? Whatever is going on between you and Nathalie has nothing to do with me! Are you trying to force me to betray her?”

Lance stared at her blankly. “She told me she’s not pregnant.”

Sophia cried, “If she already told you, then why are you interrogating me?” Lance studied the girl’s reaction. There was no hesitation in her eyes-only pure frustration and panic.

The last sliver of hope in Lance’s chest vanished.

She hadn’t lied to him.

She really wasn’t pregnant.

Without another ward, Lance turned and walked up the stairs,

disappearing into the shadows of the house.

The crushing pressure in the room finally lifted. Sophia let out a shaky breath, slumping her shoulders as she dragged herself back to her room. Lying in bed, she stared blankly at the ceiling.

What was she going to do?

How was she supposed to stop herself from wanting him?

The next morning, Sophia approached Nathalie, glancing around the room before lowering her voice. “Nathalie, I have something to tell you.”

Nathalie had just finished her workout. Covered in a light sheen of sweat, she had been looking forward to a quick shower, but the tension on Sophia’s face gave her pause. “What is it?”

Sophia leaned in closer. “Mr. Adams came to me last night. He asked about exactly what happened between us at the hotel.”

Nathalie’s eyes narrowed, a fleeting chill flashing through her gaze.

He had actually gone out of his way to interrogate Sophia. Did he really not trust a single word she said?

A bitter scoff caught in her throat. Did he truly know her so little?

Knowing her owment, if she had actually gotten pregnant, she

would never have hidden it just to give birth in secret. She firmly believed that a child raised in a loveless environment would never know true happiness, so she would have eliminated the possibility right from the

start.

“What did you tell him?” Nathalie asked, holding her gaze.

Sophia recounted the entire conversation from the previous night word

Sophia nodded eagerly. “Okay!”

Nathalie headed upstairs for a shower. Once she was clean and refreshed, her phone.chimed. It was a text from Damaris.

Damaris: [Nathalie! I have to pick out my wedding dress today, and my head is spinning. Where are you? Please come save me!]

Nathalie immediately dialed her number.

“Hey, Nathalie!” Damaris answered, the background noise on her end chaotic.

“Where are you?” Nathalie asked.

“At the bridal boutique. I’ll send you the location. My indecision is acting up again, please come rescue me!”

“Alright, I’m on my way,” Nathalie promised gently.

She changed into a fresh outfit and had Nicol drive her straight to the boutique.

As soon as she walked through the doors, she noticed that Damaris and her family were the only customers in the massive store.

“Nathalie!”

Damaris, who had been staring longingly at the entrance, practically threw herself at Nathalie the moment she spotted her, wrapping her in a tight hug. “Save me, please save me!”

“Look at you. You’re about to be a married woman, and you still can’t act your age?” Mrs. White walked over, gently scolding her daughter before offering Nathalie a warm smile. “Nathalie, are you free today?”

Nathalie shook her head. “I’m not busy at all, Mrs. White. I figured I’d drop by and see how the dress hunt is going.”

“That’s perfect. You girls can help her figure this out. This girl is entirely too lazy; she doesn’t care about her own wedding at all.” Mrs. White

glanced at her watch. “Bagot and Octavia should be here soon. Damaris, Texpect you to behave yourself, you hear me?”

Damaris rolled her eyes playfully. “I know, I know, Mom!”

Mrs. White shot her an exasperated glare before turning her attention back to the gowns.

The boutique was a high-end, bespoke brand. With the wedding so close, there was no time for a custom piece, so they were limited to the ready-to-wear collection.

Damaris couldn’t help but mutter under her breath, “We’re just going to get divorced in a few years anyway. What’s the point of looking pretty?”

Nathalie immediately clamped a hand over her mouth. “Keep your voice down!”

Damaris blinked innocently. “My bad.”
