The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 580

"Let go."

Nathalie's tone was icy. "I don't want to see you right now."

A sharp pain twisted in Lance's chest, his fingertips trembling slightly. He knew exactly why her mood had suddenly soured. It was all because of him.

Even though so much time had passed, the damage was done. The scar hadn't faded, and the pain could flare up at any moment, forcing those agonizing memories to the surface without warning.

His fingers slowly uncurled, his palm left empty as she walked upstairs without a single backward glance.

Lance's arm dropped to his side, his hand slowly clenching into a fist.

He lowered his eyes, his entire being steeped in a profound, quiet loneliness, looking like an abandoned puppy.

Watching from a distance, Sophia felt a sudden pang of heartache. She desperately wanted to rush over, comfort him, and hold him tight.

But she had no right.

All she could do was force herself to look away.

But as she did, her eyes collided with Adelaide's.

Adelaide didn't know how long she had been watching her, but those clouded eyes held an emotion Sophia couldn't decipher.

Panic instantly flooded Sophia's chest.

She had hidden it so well!

She always observed him from the shadows, absolutely terrified to reveal her feelings to anyone.

But Adelaide's gaze made her heart pound with dread.

A second later, Adelaide looked away and continued walking forward.

Anxiety gnawing at her, Sophia bit her lip, deciding she needed to find a time to talk to the old woman.

...

Nathalie spent two solid hours at the shooting range, channeling all her frustration into the targets until her stormy emotions finally leveled out.

After heading back to her room to shower, she remembered what Sophia had asked of her.

She really did need to formally thank Freddy.

Pulling out her phone, she hesitated for a moment before dialing his number.

At that moment, Sophia was in Adelaide's room.

She stood before the old woman, her hands nervously clasped together as she anxiously monitored Adelaide's expression.

Adelaide was quietly sipping her tea, her wrinkled face completely unreadable.

"Grandma."

Sophia finally spoke up, unable to bear the tension any longer.

Adelaide set her teacup down and looked up at her. "When did it start?"

Sophia's face drained of color. She crouched down, looking up at the older woman. "Grandma, I... I know I was wrong. I shouldn't be focusing on someone I have no right to. I'll keep it under control, I promise. I'm already trying my hardest to ignore him, I..."

"Cough..."

Before she could finish, Adelaide suddenly broke into a fit of coughing.

Sophia immediately jumped up to pat her back, quickly handing her a glass of water from the nightstand. "Grandma, what's wrong? Is your throat bothering you?"

Right at that moment, Nathalie walked into the room.
