With Lawrence hounding her like a relentless shadow, Damaris couldn't ignore him. Terrified of provoking his temper, she picked up a fork and shoved it into his hand.
"You have a native-sounding name, and you speak perfectly. Didn't anyone ever teach you proper dining etiquette?" Damaris couldn't help but ask.
A flicker of pure malice twisted Lawrence's features before vanishing as quickly as it appeared. "The person who gave me my name and taught me how to speak died before they could finish teaching me how to hold a fork properly."
Damaris froze. "I'm sorry..."
"Baby!" Lawrence suddenly lunged forward, crushing her in a tight hug. "You have such a soft heart. You don't ever need to apologize to me. It doesn't bother me at all!"
Damaris fell silent.
Lawrence grinned widely, showing teeth. "So teach me, baby. You're going to be by my side forever, so you'll have plenty of time to teach me, right?"
His bright, captivating blue eyes locked onto hers, once again using his devastating looks to bewitch her into compliance.
Damaris lowered her gaze. "I'm not a teacher. I can only show you the basics. You'll have to figure out the rest on your own."
"Okay, I'll do whatever you say."
True to his word, Lawrence stopped bothering her and genuinely listened as she explained how to grip the utensils, position his fingers, and angle his hands properly.
Damaris surprisingly didn't show any annoyance, maintaining a serious expression throughout her explanation. Once she finished, she turned to him. "Did you understand?"
Only to meet a pair of terrifyingly obsessed blue eyes.
He had just been staring at her. It was entirely possible he hadn't processed a single word she had said.
Damaris frowned deeply. "I've told you everything I know. Practice on your own. I'm going to eat now."
Refusing to look at him, she picked up her own silverware and focused on her meal.
Lawrence's heart hammered frantically against his ribs. He tightened his grip on his fork. The electrifying rush he felt in his chest was undeniable.
He loved his baby even more now.
Damaris watched him step outside onto the patio, not particularly caring what he was doing. She slumped onto the couch and grabbed the remote, intending to distract herself with some television.
But moments later, Lawrence stormed back in, grabbing her in a desperate, clinging embrace. "Baby, I have to go out of town for a few days! I'm going to miss you so much!"
There was urgent business he had to handle personally. Once it was done, he would come straight back to his baby.
Hearing this, a spark of hope ignited in Damaris's eyes!
Was he finally leaving the island?
Was this her chance to escape?
"You're going to miss me too, right, baby?" Lawrence murmured, nuzzling her cheek with needy, obsessive affection.
Outside, the distinct roar of helicopter blades began echoing across the estate.
