The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 625

Nathalie bit her lip, hesitating for a long moment before hitting send on her next message.

*[Okay, I'll call you when I have a better connection.]*

Adelaide replied with a trendy "OK" sticker, which felt so painfully normal that it made Nathalie's heart ache.

Scrolling through their chat history, a suffocating wave of sorrow washed over her. She couldn't help but reach up and touch her throat again. Beneath her fingertips, everything felt normal, but the reality was terrifying.

She could no longer speak.

Pulling her knees to her chest, she buried her face in her arms, shrinking herself into a tiny, heartbroken ball on the hospital bed.

Watching her, Nicol felt a lump form in his own throat. The sight was too painful to bear. He quietly slipped out of the room, giving her the space she desperately needed to process her grief.

Aaron didn't stay either. As the door clicked shut behind him, he swore he heard the faint, muffled sound of her sobs. He paused, his expression heavy, before letting out a long sigh.

"What kind of messed up situation is this?" Nicol muttered as they walked down the hall. "Everything was finally settling down, and then that psycho Felice ruins it all. How can someone be that toxic? Is she not happy unless she's dragging everyone to the grave with her?"

Aaron's eyes darkened. "The problem is, we have to keep her alive. She might be the only one who knows how to make the antidote. We can't let Boss and Mrs. Adams stay like this."

The immediate crisis had been averted, but Sylvie Winter was still out there.

If her first attempt failed, she would undoubtedly send more killers. If Lance and Nathalie hadn't recovered by then, they would be sitting ducks.

Especially Lance.

He was blind. His entire world had gone dark.

"What? Failed again?" Sylvie Winter admired her fresh manicure, the phone on speaker next to her as her subordinate delivered the bad news. She clicked her tongue. "That woman really has nine lives, doesn't she?"

"Miss, should we send another team?" the man asked.

Sylvie let out a light laugh. "Of course. Watching mice scramble for their lives is half the fun, isn't it?"

Before she could say more, her bedroom door pushed open. Sylvie's expression stiffened, and she quickly ended the call.

"You know you're supposed to knock, right?"

Her older brother stood in the doorway, eyeing her critically. "You've been burning through cash hiring mercenaries lately. Who pissed you off? Tell me, and I'll handle it for you."
