Chapter 675
Chapter 675
As evening approached, Elara Lane stepped into Lance’s hospital room. She was holding a steaming bowl of medicinal tonic, but her eyes were darting nervously around the room.
Nathalie, sitting by the bed, offered her a gentle smile. But one glance at Elara’s face was enough to tell her something was wrong. Frowning slightly, Nathalie picked up her phone and typed out a quick message. The robotic voice filled the quiet room.
“Ellie, what’s wrong?”
“Um…”
Elara shifted uncomfortably, a sheepish look crossing her face. She stammered, “I think I messed up.”
“What happened?” Lance asked, his voice dark and sharp.
Elara set the bowl of tonic down on the nightstand. She wrung her hands together, staring at the floor with deep unease. “This afternoon, I got an email from Madonna. She asked about your condition, and I didn’t think much of it, so I just told her the truth. But then I realized… I don’t think she knew exactly how badly you were hurt. Did… did I just cause a massive problem for you guys?”
She looked up at Nathalie, biting her lip nervously.
Nathalie’s expression froze for a fraction of a second. Her long eyelashes fluttered as she absorbed the news. Then, she typed, her phone echoing softly, “It’s fine. She would have found out eventually. Don’t blame yourself. It’s not your fault.”
“Really?” Elara let out a massive breath, dramatically patting her chest. “Thank God. I thought I’d completely ruined everything. I’ve been a nervous wreck all afternoon. I didn’t even dare come see you guys! I was so scared.”
She had a naturally loud and straightforward personality. She spoke her mind and rarely cared about what others thought, but now that the pressure was off, she bounced right back. “Well, if it’s fine, then great! Come on, time to drink your medicine.”
Nathalie picked up the bowl and guided it into Lance’s hand. But this time, Lance refused to take it.
Elara blinked in confusion. “What’s wrong? Is it too hot?”
“Leave the room,” Lance told her flatly.
Elara paused, her gaze flicking back and forth between the two of them. Realization suddenly dawned on her face, and she nodded quickly. “Got it. I’ll step out. I’ll be right by the door if you need anything.”
She hurried out of the room, thoughtfully pulling the door shut behind her.
“Nat.”
Only after confirming the absolute absence of a third person’s breathing in the room did Lance finally speak. He turned his bandaged face toward her, his voice thick and raspy. “You aren’t going to leave me, are you?”
