Chapter 722
Nathalie looked tense, her gaze dropping to the floor. The terrifying thought that her voice might never return gnawed at her.
What would she do then? Would she ever be able to return to the voice acting career she loved?
After finishing her examination, Elara offered a reassuring smile. “Physically, you’re doing great. The damage to your vocal cords is just a bit severe, so it’ll take some more time. Don’t stress yourself out over it. You’re going to get better.”
Elara’s earnest tone left no room for doubt. She knew anxiety would only hinder Nathalie’s recovery.
Nathalie nodded, trusting her judgment.
Elara then walked over to Lance. “Let me check on you.”
Lance sat back on the sofa and gave a curt nod.
She carefully removed his bandages and gently held his eyelids open, shining a penlight into his pupils.
“Any light perception?” she asked, studying his reaction.
“No,” Lance replied flatly.
Once she finished checking both eyes, Elara clicked off the light and took his pulse.
A moment later, she stood up. “You’re both making progress. Just be patient.”
“Thank you, Dr. Lane,” Lance said, his tone perfectly polite but distinctly distant.
Elara rolled her eyes at him before turning back to Nathalie, her expression brightening. “Hey, want to go out with me today? I’ve never
really explored Cabinda. I don’t know any of the good spots for food or fun!”
“No,” Lance interjected immediately.
“Why not?” Elara shot back. “You’re not the boss of us!”
She turned eager eyes to Nathalie.
Thinking of her precarious situation, Nathalie reached for her phone. The robotic voice filled the room. “It’s safer if I stay inside. Sylvie Winter’s
people could be watching me from anywhere,”
Elara smacked her forehead. “Crap, I completely forgot about her. Yeah, let’s play it safe. I’ll just wander around on my own.”
“Okay,” Nathalie nodded.
“I’ll get someone to show you around,” Lance offered. “Do you want a guide?”
Elara looked at him, surprised. “A guide? Who?”
“Bagot.”
Elara thought about it and shrugged. Having a local would definitely make things easier. “Sure, tell him to come pick me up.”
After breakfast, Lance handed his phone to Nathalie. “The passcode is our anniversary. Call Bagot and tell him to head over.”
Nathalie took the device, her eyes lingering on the lock screen. It was a photo of the two of them.
