The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 757

Chapter 757

Chapter 757

“But, of course, having said all that… Elara practically threw the car into reverse. “If you behave yourself and try to earn some leniency from Nat, you definitely still have a chance She turned to Nathalie, offering a sickeningly sweet smile. “After all, you guys are still husband and wife. You can figure out all that other stuff if you ever actually stop being husband and wife,”

Nathalie stared at her suspiciously, realizing Elara had been acting incredibly weird over the last couple of days.

Why did it sound like she was suddenly speaking up for Lance?

Hasn’t she always completely despised him?

Under Nathalie’s scrutinizing gaze, Elara felt a massive wave of guilt. She rubbed her nose, awkwardly looking away as she cleared her throat. “Ahem… I mean, I’m just offering an objective third-party perspective here! You totally don’t have to listen to me.”

Nathalie pulled out her phone and typed. “You’re right about one thing. I’m not going to think about romance until the current mess is fully resolved.”

Elara instantly exhaled a massive sigh of relief. She swore she had just fried half her brain cells trying to save that conversation!

Dragging those words back from the edge of a cliff had been terrifying.

But thankfully, she had pulled it off!

Yes, she was a genius!

She totally deserved that paycheck!

She hadn’t gone against her conscience, and she hadn’t explicitly shot down his point, either.

Elara felt absolutely brilliant.

Lance, however, was incredibly dissatisfied with that answer. But he knew better than to push the subject, otherwise she would definitely get angry again.

Silence settled heavily inside the car once more.

The driver pulled up straight to Lumina Grand. After Nathalie dropped Lance off at the door, she typed on her phone. “Elara and I are going out for a bit. Do you need me to pick anything up for you?”

Lance’s tone lifted slightly. “Are you going to buy me a gift? As long as it’s from you, I’ll love

whatever it is.”

Nathalie stared at him.

She gave up trying to communicate with him entirely, turned on her heel, and walked away

But his hopeful voice trailed after her anyway. “I’ll be waiting for you.”

Nathalie internally groaned.

Once back in the car, she let out a long, heavy exhale.

Elara, who had already slid into the backseat, burst out laughing at the exhausted look on Nathalie’s face. “Are you seriously getting freaked out by how clingy he is?”

Nathalie typed on her phone. “He was never like this before.”

“Because he has absolutely no security right now,” Elara explained. “In the past, you gave him so much confidence that he fully believed you’d never leave him, no matter what happened So he stopped appreciating you and ignored your feelings. But now that you actually don’t want him anymore, he’s panicking. He’s turned into this clingy, paranoid mess because he’s terrified of losing you.”

Nathalie blinked, a flash of surprise crossing her clear eyes. Her fingers flew rapidly across the keyboard, the cold electronic voice tinged with genuine curiosity. “You sound like you know exactly what you’re talking about.”

A flicker of something complicated flashed through Elara’s eyes. “I’ve never been in a relationship, but I’ve seen enough to know how it works. My parents’ dynamic was actually pretty similar to yours. They were never legally married, so my dad was always incredibly insecure. Wherever my mom went, he followed her like a lost puppy.”

Hearing that, Nathalie was even more surprised. Based on the stories Elara had told her, she had always assumed her parents were deeply in love. They had never actually gotten married?

A nostalgic, faintly sorrowful look settled over Elara’s features. “My mom had a very wild, free spirit. She hated feeling tied down. When she got together with my dad, it was just on a whim. Once she got bored, she wanted an out, so naturally, she was never going to marry

him. But who could have guessed that my dad would end up permanently clinging to her after that?”
