The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 758

Chapter 758

Chapter 758

Nathalie listened, utterly fascinated. She even caught herself wondering if things wouldn’t be nearly this complicated right now if she had never married Lance in the first place.

Elara let out a soft sigh. “My dad’s biggest regret in life was probably never officially marrying my mom. He never got that legal status to call himself her husband.”

Nathalie reached over and gently squeezed her hand, offering a silent wave of comfort.

Elara squeezed back, smiling. “I’m totally fine now! I just miss them like crazy sometimes Honestly, I’m glad you’re willing to let me talk about them. It feels like telling their stories keeps them alive just a little bit longer.”

Elara grinned. “If no one talks about them, and no one remembers them, that’s when they really disappear for good.”

Nathalie held her phone up to type, looking at her with total sincerity. “I want to hear about them. Whenever you feel like talking, I’ll always listen.”

“Awesome! Just don’t complain that I’m annoying you later,” Elara said, nodding happily.

Nathalie shook her head, and the two young women shared a warm smile.

Elara’s main goal for the day was just to breathe some fresh air and clear her head, so they headed straight to the mall to do some shopping.

But while passing by a trendy dessert shop, they spotted Sophia working behind the counter.

She was wearing a neat uniform, currently taking orders at the register.

While Elara was still staring at the menu trying to decide what to get, Nathalie reached out and tapped Sophia on the arm.

Sophia looked up. When she saw who it was, her face instantly lit up. “Nathalie!”

Nathalie nodded, pulling out her phone to type. “You’re working here?”

“Yeah!” Sophia nodded brightly. “Just a part-time job while I’m in school. It helps cover my own living expenses, and I can pay for a nurse to take care of my mom.”

The money she had earned working at Lumina Grand was more than enough to cover her mother’s care, leaving Sophia free to go back to school and work part-time to build her own future.

Nathalie typed, “Doesn’t that leave you exhausted?”

Sophia offered a shy smile. “Honestly, I think it’s fine. It feels good to be busy. When my hands are full, I don’t have time to dwell on all the miserable things.”

Nathalie nodded approvingly, then typed again. “What about your brother? Has he come back

to cause you any more trouble?”

“No” Sophia shook her head. “I haven’t seen him since that last incident. The guys you sent probably scared him off for good. I really need to thank you for that”

She glanced at the drinks they had ordered and smiled. “These are on me.”

Elara immediately shook her head, “Absolutely not. You’re working hard for your money; we’re not letting you pay for us”

“It’s really okay! Nathalie has done so much for me, and there’s not much I can do to repay her. The least I can do is buy you both a drink,” Sophia insisted warmly.

Nathalie gave Elara a nod, signaling her to just let Sophia cover it.

The drinks were only a few dollars, easily within Sophia’s budget. If she wanted to treat them, it was better to accept the gesture.

Elara smiled, “Alright then, thank you! I guess I’m riding on Nat’s coattails today.”

Sophia turned to start making their drinks, calling back over her shoulder, “Grab a seat! I’ll bring these right over.”
