Chapter 762
The Night Market was far too crowded. Nathalie scanned the sea of faces, but the familiar silhouette was completely gone. She stood frozen in place, a wave of profound disorientation washing over her.
“Hey, what’s gotten into you?”
Nicol stared at her, utterly baffled by her sudden erratic behavior.
Nathalie let out a slow, heavy breath. She pulled out her phone and quickly typed, “I just wanted to
thank the man who helped me, but I lost him.”
Nicol waved it off. “Oh, is that all? There are plenty of good Samaritans out there who don’t stick around for applause. Just be grateful he was there.”
“Yeah.”
Nathalie gave a small nod.
Just then, Elara Lane wandered over, balancing a tray of street food in her hands. She looked at them in confusion. “Why are you guys standing over here? I almost couldn’t find you. What happened back there? Why is the roasted pork stand blocked off?”
Nicol quickly filled her in on the attempted assault.
Elara’s eyes widened in disbelief. “People actually try to pull something like that in a crowd this big? That takes some nerve.”
“A big crowd actually makes it easier for them,” Nicol explained. “There’s an alley right behind the stalls. If they had grabbed her, they would have vanished into the dark before anyone could react.”
Elara frowned deeply. “The security around here is definitely lacking.”
Nicol chuckled, trying to lighten the mood. “Alright, let’s not dwell on it. The trash has been taken out. You two go find a place to sit and eat. I’ll stick close by this time.”
“Sounds good.”
Elara nodded and immediately shoved a warm skewer into Nathalie’s hand.
“Here, try this.”
Back at Lumina Grand, Nathalie couldn’t shake her distraction.
Even while showering and going through her skincare routine, her mind kept replaying the image of the man from the market.
