The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 93

A loud slap rang through the hallway.

Felice cried out, grabbing her head in shock.

No one had seen it coming. Nathalie stormed out without warning, her hand flying at Felice again and again before the nanny finally rushed over to break things up.

Nathalie was breathing hard, still furious. Her voice was cold as ice. “I never touched you, but you kept acting, trying to make him think I did. Fine. You wanted a scene, so here you go.”

Then she looked straight at Lance. Her eyes were sharper than ever. “Look carefully. This is what it looks like when I hit someone. I don’t do some half-hearted little shove. What’s the point?”

Lance just stood there, startled by how things had unfolded. Still, he walked over and grabbed Nathalie’s wrist.

“What are you doing? Let go of me!” Nathalie fought to pull free, her anger spilling over.

Felice, still clutching her stinging face, spoke up weakly. “Lance, please… don’t make this worse. Nathalie misunderstood me. I’m fine…”

To her, it looked like Lance was about to defend her, maybe even hurt Nathalie for her sake. If that happened, there’d really be no going back.

But Lance stayed silent, his face cold and unreadable. A tense energy filled the space around him.

Without speaking, he pulled Nathalie into the elevator with him, then turned to the nanny. “Take Felice home. And watch Jasper.”

The nanny looked pale as she nodded. “Yes, of course…”

The elevator doors slid shut, leaving Felice standing there. She was frozen in place.

What just happened?

Why hadn’t Lance done anything? She’d been slapped in front of everyone. Why hadn’t he defended her? Why hadn’t he even said sorry?

“Felice, let me get you some ice,” the nanny offered, eyeing Felice’s changing expression with concern.

Felice just closed her eyes for a second, trying to swallow her frustration. Then she turned and walked back inside.

But Felice wouldn’t let go. The tighter she held Jasper, the more desperately he cried.

The nanny found it strange. Still, she kept her distance. This wasn’t her place to interfere.

Felice stared down at Jasper, her voice dropping to a mutter. “Why are you so useless? Is it because you aren’t pathetic enough for Lance to care about you?”

But Jasper was just a child. He didn’t understand a word, only sobbing harder in her arms.

The elevator ride was thick with tension.

Lance still gripped Nathalie’s wrist. Her face was tight with anger, her eyes blazing as she leaned away from him as much as she could, her arm dangling awkwardly between them.

She gave a bitter laugh. “What, are you going to stand there holding me all day? Gonna get back at me for Felice? Am I supposed to be scared now?”

Lance didn’t answer, his gaze steady and deep, his expression impossible to read.
