Henry's eyes darted away shiftily. In just a short time, it seemed as though he had been crushed by an immense amount of pressure, looking haggard and completely defeated.
"N-nothing..."
"Are you sure?" Chloe bored into him. "Henry, you know better than I do that he is not a good person."
"And yet you still chose to compromise and let him control you? Whatever is happening, just tell me. Maybe we can figure a way out of it together."
Henry's eyes instantly filled with tears. He stayed silent for a long time before choking out a few words.
"My sister..."
Chloe's eyes narrowed. "He kidnapped your sister?"
Henry shook his head, a look of helpless hatred welling up in his eyes.
The sickest part was that Julian hadn't done anything technically illegal, leaving him absolutely powerless!
He simply couldn't compete with their twisted games!
"Ms. Reed..."
Henry's bloodshot eyes locked onto Chloe in utter desperation.
"If it's possible... could you go somewhere for me?"
"My sister, Thea, is there. If you see her, please, pass something on to her for me..."
His hands shaking wildly, he pulled a pocket watch from his coat and offered it to Chloe with both hands.
"If this works out, I swear I will never forget your kindness. I will do whatever it takes to convince the professor to do your surgery!"
Chloe didn't take the watch, keeping her eyes fixed on him. "So, Dr. Macleod never actually signed any sort of agreement with him?"
The guilt on Henry's face deepened immensely.
When he first saw her so utterly broken, he instinctively labeled her as a weak victim. He even felt a condescending sort of pity, wanting to toss her a breadcrumb of hope.
But now, he finally saw just how strong she really was.
She looked like a fragile flower, but in truth, she was a deeply rooted tree wrapped in blooming branches.
Henry hesitated for a moment, too terrified to hide anything from her now.
"Henry, I genuinely appreciate the kindness you showed me before. But I also know we're just passing strangers."
Chloe took the pocket watch from Henry's trembling hands. "Tell me where your sister is."
Only then did Henry snap back to reality, utter disbelief written across his face. "Ms. Reed, I never imagined you would still be willing to help me. I don't know how I'll ever repay you, I..."
"There's no need to thank me. It's just a trade. You just need to remember your promise," Chloe stated simply.
Henry looked at her, his heart twisting with an inexplicable mix of sorrow and regret.
He knew that because he had lied to her once, she would never, ever trust him again.
He deeply regretted destroying any chance of ever being her friend.
Out of nowhere, he suddenly thought of her husband.
He still remembered what Preston had done to her. Given all that suffering, why hadn't she just agreed to cooperate with Julian?
Henry forced away his messy thoughts and spat out a location.
