The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 247

Spring was right around the corner. The warmth that the daytime sun had painstakingly gathered was mercilessly washed away by the freezing night rain.

Preston stood perfectly still in the downpour, staring at the spot where the car had vanished around the street corner.

If Chloe had bothered to give him a single, earnest glance, she would have noticed that he was covered in bruises and cuts.

But she hadn't looked at him once.

She had never been like this before.

"It seems... she's truly angry this time," Preston muttered to himself.

Just as he turned around, an umbrella was suddenly hoisted over his head.

"Chlo—"

Preston's eyes lit up as he spun around, but the nascent smile on his face froze the second he saw the person standing behind him.

"What are you doing here?"

Jenna caught the unmistakable wave of disappointment in his eyes and dug her fingernails into her palms.

"Preston, I heard you were in trouble. I was so worried about you..."

Before she could even finish, Preston cut her off.

"I'm fine. Go home."

Julian's faint chuckle suddenly drifted over.

The soft, mocking laughter sent an instant chill down Jenna's spine.

If Preston stopped caring about her, it meant she had completely lost her value to Julian.

Just the thought of it filled Jenna with absolute terror, her eyes instantly reddening with tears.

"Preston, did Chloe say something to you again? We've been friends for so many years. You're hurt like this, and she might be able to just walk away, but I can't!"

"Are you annoyed by me now? Why else would you reject even the most basic concern between friends?"

"If I'm really getting in the way of you two, I can leave... I don't want to make things difficult for you."

She choked back a sob, all her usual boldness melting away, leaving behind a display of utter fragility. Preston paused."Jenna, I didn't mean it like that." Jenna continued to sob, letting her body sway weakly toward his chest. "Preston..."

Preston stepped sideways and grabbed her arm to steady her. "It's too late. Have Ken drive you back so you can get some rest."

With that, he let go of her and walked away without looking back.

"Preston!"

Jenna screamed at his retreating back.

Looking at her as though a second glance would physically sicken him, Julian turned and walked away without looking back.

...

Ding.

Chloe's phone chimed several times in rapid succession.

They were all messages from Preston.

She didn't bother opening them and simply muted her phone.

"Boss, thank you for today."

Quentin raised an eyebrow. "Assistant Reed, regarding your flight in four days... do you plan on telling Preston?"

Chloe shook her head. "I won't tell him for now."

She had no intention of returning to the country before the divorce cooling-off period expired.

A month would be more than enough time for him to establish a new relationship with Jenna.

Once he had his fill of playing the devoted husband, he would naturally grow bored.

By the time she returned, she would easily collect her divorce certificate.
