Sunlight bathed the grounds.
As Preston walked forward, Chloe's figure unexpectedly entered his line of sight.
She was walking Yuri on the grass.
Preston walked over.
Yuri noticed him first and barked excitedly.
But Chloe acted as if she hadn't seen him at all. Not a single ripple of emotion crossed her eyes.
The smile that had just begun to form on Preston's lips instantly froze, and the words on the tip of his tongue died away.
He watched helplessly as she brushed right past him, staring straight ahead.
"Chloe."
Preston couldn't help but call out to her.
"I'm dizzy."
Chloe didn't even turn her head. "Dial 911 yourself."
A second later, a dull thud sounded behind her, like something heavy collapsing to the ground.
Preston's vision blurred. He could vaguely see Chloe stepping closer, but he couldn't make out the expression on her face.
"Chloe, I wasn't lying to you..."
Chloe called security.
The guard rushed over, but the moment his fingers brushed Preston, he gasped.
"This man is burning up! The wound on his forehead is infected!"
He immediately reached for his radio to call an ambulance.
"No, I'm not going to the hospital."
Preston stared at that perpetually indifferent figure, his tone turning uncontrollably stubborn.
The guard looked at Chloe in a bind. "Ms. Reed, this..."
"If he wants to lie there, let him lie there," Chloe said flatly.
With that, she walked away without looking back.
"Chloe..."
Only when her silhouette completely disappeared from his sight did Preston incredulously accept that she truly didn't care about him anymore.
Why?
How long was she going to keep throwing this tantrum?
Even when she was angry in the past, she had never been this heartless.
"Preston! Preston! Are you okay?"
Jenna's eyes locked onto his injured forehead, and her face twisted with exaggerated distress.
"Who did this? They've got a lot of nerve! I'm going to make them pay for this!"
"Does my injury look serious?" Preston asked out of nowhere.
Jenna paused, a little confused, but nodded anyway.
"Yes, Preston! I was scared to death. Tell me, what happened?"
Preston's mind drifted.
If his injury was really that serious, why wasn't Chloe the least bit worried?
"Did Chloe ask you to come?"
"No..." Jenna replied instinctively.
Preston frowned. "Then how did you know I was here?"
Caught off guard by his sharp interrogation, Jenna stiffened before continuing.
"Chloe actually called me, but her tone was awful. She didn't care whether you lived or died. It sounded like she was just trying to dump a problem on someone else..."
"So she did call you," Preston murmured, a faint smirk curling his lips.
