The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 285

Leon's voice roared in her ear like a demon straight out of hell.

Chloe's heart slammed against her ribs with heavy, bruising force. When she finally spoke, she didn't even realize her own voice was trembling.

"My Secret Diary... you had it?"

Leon barked out a laugh. "Bingo! For someone so young, you were completely shameless. Writing a whole damn book about him. It was disgusting!"

He sneered. "But right now, it's sitting with Preston."

"Linda gave it to him three years ago."

"Thanks to all the pathetic, tragic garbage you wrote in there, Preston actually felt sorry enough for you to agree to the marriage! Hahahaha!"

A suffocating wave of despair crashed over Chloe. Her mind went completely blank.

A piercing, agonized ringing flared in her left ear, sharp and tearing. She collapsed to the ground, clutching her head as the pain threatened to split her skull.

"Leon, you bastards!"

"You're going to burn in hell for this!"

Chloe had always thought she was unbreakable. She had survived the emotional abuse of her adoptive family, the humiliation at school, the endless hurdles in her career. She thought her armor was impenetrable.

But in this split second, she realized how fragile she truly was.

Just picturing Preston's face felt like a knife twisting brutally in her chest.

No wonder.

No wonder he never told her he loved her.

No wonder he always carried that lingering guilt toward Jenna.

No wonder Percival Hayes always looked at her with such profound disgust...

She didn't even dare to imagine what Preston had been thinking every time she had desperately asked him if he loved her.

The realization shattered her pride into a million jagged pieces. It was a humiliation that seeped into her very bones. And the worst part was, none of it was her fault.

On the other end of the line, Leon was still hurling abuse.

"Linda was right, you are an ungrateful bitch! We gave a deaf girl the life of a billionaire's wife, and now you have the nerve to blame us?"

An invisible hand seized Chloe's throat, choking the air from her lungs.

Fighting through the blinding pain, she typed back:

[If anything happens to him, you won't get a single dime.]

Leon sent a voice memo, his tone dripping with arrogant malice: "Who the hell do you think you're talking to?"

"I've always hated that high-and-mighty attitude of yours! Get this through your head: everything you have right now is because of me!"

"You should be on your knees thanking me, understand?"

Chloe: [Where are you?]

Leon: [Money first. Cut the crap.]

Chloe: [Location.]

[Or you get absolutely nothing. Fifty million dollars versus a dog. Which one do you think I'm going to pick?]

There was a long silence on the other end before a location pin was finally sent.
