Preston Hayes forced himself to stay calm, unsure if he was speaking to Ken beside him or simply reassuring himself. "She wants to leave the past behind. She wants to start over with me." He forced a smile. "She's always cared deeply about ceremony."
Ken asked cautiously, "Mr. Hayes, what do we do now?"
He wanted to point out that this house likely belonged to Quentin Shaw. The Shaw family was incredibly wealthy; they had no reason to sell a property. Unless, of course, they never planned to live there again...
Preston naturally thought of this too, but he didn't voice it, let alone dare to dwell on it. He simply said, "Look into Quentin Shaw."
"Understood," Ken replied.
The prospective buyer was very satisfied with the house, nodding repeatedly. "The location is great. Let's sign the contract today."
Just as the buyer stepped forward eagerly, Preston suddenly spoke up. "I'll take this house."
The buyer glared. "Do you know what first come, first served means?"
"I'll pay double," Preston replied.
The buyer froze. "Are you out of your mind?"
The real estate agent's eyes lit up, quickly stepping in. "Sir, you're not joking?"
"You'll get your full commission," Preston said. "But you need to contact the owner right now, in front of me."
The buyer's face turned green with anger. "Do you have too much money to burn? Why do you have to fight me for this?"
"My wife is just throwing a tantrum," Preston said. "If she decides she wants to move back and finds the house gone, she'll be upset."
The buyer grew even more furious, throwing out a parting shot before leaving. "If she sold the house, it means she doesn't want you! If you were really that considerate, why would she throw a tantrum in the first place?"
The footsteps faded at the elevator.
The agent awkwardly tried to smooth things over. "Sir, please don't take it to heart. All married couples fight. You're so good to your wife; when she finds out, she'll be incredibly touched..."
Preston cut him off. "Sign the contract."
The agent paused for a second, then nodded profusely. "Yes, yes, I'll contact the owner right away..."
Preston stood in the center of the living room, looking around.
He didn't bother explaining anything to the agent.
He was just thinking that she would definitely come back.
The chaotic time difference didn't drain Chloe's energy in the slightest. She eagerly took in the familiar surroundings, her heart racing.
She was really back.
Everything was truly about to start over!
A sleek black van pulled over. Bob Miller, the driver for the Sterling Interpretation Institute, stepped out and politely opened the door for Quentin. "Mr. Shaw."
His gaze swept over Chloe in the process. He felt an overwhelming sense of familiarity, yet he couldn't quite place her face.
Quentin introduced her calmly, "This is my assistant, Ms. Reed."
Bob immediately extended a hand. "Hello, Ms. Reed."
Chloe noticed him studying her face and found it slightly amusing. She shook his hand. "Hello, Bob."
Bob blinked in surprise. "How do you know my name?"
Chloe smiled. "Mr. Shaw mentioned you."
