The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 306

"A lot has happened in the three years you've been gone. Things aren't just what you see on the surface. Some people want you back, and some don't."

Chloe listened quietly, her fingers gently rubbing the rim of her coffee cup.

Monica continued, "I know what you're thinking. You have the ability, you can prove yourself, you can shut everyone up. I believe all of that."

"But didn't you consider the issues I mentioned, which is exactly why you chose to return to the institute as Chloe Reed?"

She paused, her gaze landing on Chloe's left ear.

"Wait until your hearing is fully cured, and then return as the real Caroline Monet. I look forward to that day."

Quentin stepped in. "But..."

"Let's go."

Chloe finished her thought and turned to walk out.

Quentin followed her. "What kind of non-harassment agreement did you actually sign with the UN back then?"

As far as he was concerned, Caroline was a living, breathing person.

No matter how exceptional she was, she belonged entirely to herself!

"You know I can't say."

Chloe looked back at him and smiled slightly. "It's fine. I really feel like my hearing will definitely be cured now."

Quentin looked at her, his fingers unconsciously clenching.

He didn't know what to call this feeling.

He only knew that he didn't want to see her wearing that kind of smile.

"It absolutely will."

Outside the window, the UN flag snapped fiercely in the wind.

At the end of the long corridor, a figure flashed by and disappeared.

...

"There's a dinner party tonight. Do you want to come?"

Lydia looked at Chloe expectantly.

For some reason, she recently found herself uncontrollably drawn to Chloe, desperately wanting to be friends with her.

Chloe smiled. "Sure, what time?"

It wasn't until she followed Quentin into the private dining room at the restaurant and saw the collective shock on everyone's faces that she finally let out a breath of relief.

So she wasn't just overreacting.

The event itself was just that shocking.

"Oh my god, did Mr. Shaw walk into the wrong room?"

"Doesn't he completely avoid these kinds of parties?"

"Not really... when Caroline was still around, he never missed a single one..."

The hushed murmurs buzzed around the room like mosquitoes.

Quentin's expression didn't change as he walked straight over and pulled out a chair for Chloe.

He scanned the table and said coolly, "Have you ordered yet? Dinner is on me tonight."

Amidst a chorus of cheers, the private room door was pushed open once more.

Everyone looked up. Once they recognized the face at the door, their eyes instinctively darted toward Quentin.

Suddenly, everyone understood exactly why Quentin had showed up tonight.
