The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 312

"Ms. Reed, the summit is tomorrow night. I'll have my assistant send you the breakdown. Make sure you're prepared."

"Got it."

The elevator arrived.

Isabella stepped in first.

They stood side by side in deafening silence.

"What is your relationship with Quentin?" Isabella asked out of nowhere.

Chloe glanced at her but didn't answer.

Isabella pressed on. "I've known him for twenty years. We practically grew up together."

"Whenever I'm ready, I'll be the one he marries. The only reason I haven't agreed to the family's arrangements is because I have a condition. Do you know what it is?"

Chloe kept her gaze forward. "You don't need to explain this to me."

Isabella stared at her, continuing regardless. "Because I'm waiting for him to ask me himself."

"But if I find out someone is trying to sink their claws into him with ulterior motives, I have no problem dropping my principles. Do you understand?"

With a soft ding, the elevator doors slid open.

A crowd of people was waiting in the lobby.

"Good morning, Ms. Sylvain."

Isabella withdrew her sharp gaze and walked straight out.

Lydia was among the crowd. Her eyes lit up the moment she saw Chloe.

"Did Monica call you in to put you back on the President's summit?"

Chloe looked at her. "How did you know?"

"So it's true! Isabella is so generous," Lydia beamed. "Chloe, you have to seize this opportunity. If you crush it, you might get promoted from assistant back to full interpreter. You definitely have the talent for it."

Chloe exchanged a few pleasantries before heading back to her desk.

By noon, the news had spread through the entire institute.

Everyone was praising Isabella's graciousness and Chloe's undeniable luck.

During her break, Chloe sat at her computer, her mind drifting back to Isabella's warning in the elevator.

Just then, her phone buzzed.

It was a rapid-fire string of texts from Belle:

Pushing down the lingering knot of unease, she opened the document and dove back into her prep work.

The next day.

The event was scheduled for seven in the evening at a high-tech resort estate.

At four o'clock, a luxury car pulled up to the institute's entrance.

When Chloe climbed in, she was surprised to find Isabella already seated inside.

The woman was leaning back in her leather seat, her eyes closed, apparently resting.

Isabella's assistant greeted Chloe and handed her a bottle of warm water and some throat lozenges.

"Ms. Reed, we prepared some for you as well."

"Thank you," Chloe murmured, taking them.

Without opening her eyes, Isabella spoke up.

"You reviewed the workload for tonight, right?"

"Chloe, I'm just making an appearance. I will not be bailing you out."
