The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 329

On the way back to her office, Chloe opened her chat with Belle Evans again.

Since she said she was going to look into something for her, there hadn't been a single reply.

The call she made this morning remained unanswered as well.

Growing slightly concerned, Chloe dialed her number again.

The call was rejected instantly.

A text message popped up immediately after:

[I'm busy right now. Can't talk.]

Chloe frowned, a subconscious feeling of unease settling in her chest.

After a moment of thought, she typed back:

[Are you busy moving? Did you say you were flying to Switzerland tomorrow or the day after?]

The reply came: [Chloe, you must be remembering wrong. When did I ever say I was going to Switzerland?]

Chloe finally let out a breath of relief.

It seemed she had just been too tense lately, letting her imagination run wild.

[Yeah, my mistake. I've already figured out a way in, so you don't have to worry.]

Belle replied: [That's great. But I've got some things going on here, so I won't be able to come see you for the next few days.]

[Waiting for your good news, Chloe.]

Chloe asked: [What's going on? Do you need any help?]

There was no further response.

Whether it was from a lack of sleep or something else, a strong sense of foreboding washed over her, and her eye twitched.

Just then, a work notification chimed.

The institute had called a meeting.

Chloe locked her phone, grabbed her laptop, and headed to the conference room.

The large conference room was packed, the atmosphere crackling with palpable excitement.

Lydia Moore waved at Chloe, gesturing for her to sit nearby.

Chloe walked over. "Did something good happen?"

"Of course! It's incredible news!"

Lydia looked absolutely thrilled. "Do you know who is coming tomorrow?"

Right then, Monica's gaze landed on one specific person.

"Chloe, Quentin Shaw is out at a conference, so you will be in charge of hosting Dr. Sharpe tomorrow."

Instantly, every single pair of eyes in the room snapped toward Chloe.

Chloe looked up, meeting Monica's meaningful gaze.

Before she could say a word, a sharp voice rang out.

"Monica, I don't think Chloe is suited for this!"

Andrea Vance stood up from the crowd.

Monica looked over, her brow furrowing. "Reason?"

Andrea spoke with self-righteous conviction. "You saw exactly what happened yesterday with your own eyes."

"Chloe can't even handle her own personal drama. If someone shows up to cause trouble while she's hosting Dr. Sharpe tomorrow, won't that make the institute—and Dr. Sharpe—a laughingstock?"

At her words, several others murmured in agreement.

It was, unfortunately, a valid point worth considering.

Seeing the crowd back her up, Andrea grew emboldened and continued.
